Sorry what? :? :? :? If you want me to understand where the nail and the hammer comes in, I'm afraid you're going to have to expand that a bit

Duct tape and tarps, got it, ta muchly. Nail and hammer, not so much

Depending on your hinges the nail can push up from the bottom and remove the rod connecting the two flanges together, Your decorator or husband/yourself or previous owners may have painted over these.

once removed the hammer and said nails can then be used to secure doors in new location.

When in a rush to build an expedited shelter having items readily to hand would help.

Aha! Are you thinking of that model where people take their doors off their hinges to create a shelter within their house?

I'm totally ignorant of this and apologies if this comes across wrong- but what's the benefit of removing your doors to build a separate shelter inside your house? Surely the amount of material the radiation has to pass through would still be the same?

I even grew up in the 70's & 80's ten miles away from greenham common. I'm starting to think I didn't pay enough attention to my education at school 😉 😉 😉

I agree! Plus, if you keep your doors where they're supposed to be, you have more barriers within the house - you might get a blown window etc, and if you've taken all your doors off, you've got no way to protect against whatever comes in.

Getting 3 or 4 doors off their hinges, and leaning them against a wall then covering them with household stuff used to be the recommended way to build a nuclear shelter off the cuff. I kid you not :? I'm wondering if it goes as far back as Protect and Survive?

That's the one. Anything is better than nothing without prior warning.

My upstairs doors (x 4) would provide more cover when stacked with other items in a confined space then provided in situ, all other rooms would be abandoned and sealed with tarps. All beds and furniture in the upstairs rooms would be consolidated above the downstairs room to be used.
