Been reading for a little while that because of crap harvests a lot of farmers (certainly in America) are slaughtering their stock because they just can't afford to feed them.
The net effect of this would be a glut of cheap meat (for a short time) and then a dramatic price rise.
Mrs Ogre told me today that pork joints were £2 per KG at the supermarket. Less than £1 per Lb.
Don't know if this is a start, but may be worth throwing a few joints in the freezer whilst you can.
Good point Ogre. Would be interesting to consider the long term effect of this, killling animlas now before winter means little or no breeding next year, so less meat. Those animals left over the winter may have less food thsus producing poorer quality meat.
Would be interesting to know about the UK's grain harvest, and possible impact.
Seems it was a Morrisons Special. Never mind.Managed to get 3 large joints for £10. Bit of work with the knife and vacuum sealer and the wife has 9 small joints in the freezer.
Thanks axelt123, I don't eat pork but I do have a shoulder of lamb that's been in the freezer since April and was beginning to think I'd have to throw it out! Glad I don't have to worry about that now!
