Research project

Post by truthseeker »

Hello, I am new to the Preppers forum but not to the Preppers concept having worked with a dedicated prepper in West Sussex over the summer. The reason I have been working with him is because I am doing some research for a documentary film about the shape of the world today and how people are preparing for such an uncertain future. Needless to say he has been hugely informative in the research process. I am not looking to make contact with other Preppers who would be interested in the project. At this stage I am keen to talk to people and if possible, meet with them to widen my understanding of how and why different people are preparing. I understand there is a certain degree of anonymity involved in the process of prepping and it would be good to hear also how people feel about the idea of a film that explores the need to prepp as well as the actual prepping itself. In terms of my background, I am an independent film maker currently working alone developing films such as this with the overall objective of sharing the truth. It would be great to hear your feedback.

sorry, in the past Preppers have been very suspicious of film makers who approach them, it dosent fit in with our "grey man" thinking.

Can I ask what 'truth' you are hoping to share via the film?

Hi, thanks for your responses- I think I'd say I'm a novice prepper, but getting better every day! I've read through the links, thanks Brambles for your suggestions. The grey man area is particularly enlightening and yes, I can understand peoples' suspicions. Forming honest and trusting relationships with contributors is the first objective for me and that is why I like to meet people to discuss my projects first and foremost. I fully understand that many people don't want to be filmed for any number of reasons, but there are also some that do, because they believe the subject matter is important enough to share.

Regarding the sharing of truth, the films I make are observational in their nature, as well as informative and educational. They are also always collaborative, therefore what I observe is for me the truth, if what is being spoken is the truth. So, in answer to your question, bulldogeagle, 'your truth or ours' I would say both.

Truthseeker first and foremost welcome to the forum.

In regards to prepping whether you are knew to prepping or have been doing it a while, you definately fall into the category of a prepper which is a good first step.

With respect to making people aware of the 'truth', whilst you have commented on that some people wish for it to be known more about prepping, most preppers wish to be the grey man, unfortunately its a sad fact that whilst there are some rational people out there in society who may think us preppers have a good point, the fact is and I speak for people of certainly my age and younger(my younger sisters fall into this category) - that the majority think preppers are weirdo's :tinfoil and that they are happy with their technology and shopping from the supermarket.

My personal view is that if someone wishes to start prepping, they will not wait for a broadcast to be put out on the 9pm news but will start looking themselves and then slowly depending on what they read form their own opinion of whether or not they see themselves as a prepper or that we are quite honestly what most people think we are.

Im 26 and brought up with technology and whilst I do enjoy technology, I also got to the point that I had to stop looking through rose tinted specs after suffering my own SHTF, I read alot more and take advice from these forums and older relatives and wish to lower my dependence on technology.

This isnt a dig at you fella, If you find a prepper that is willing to provide information and be in a documentary then all the best to you, but I for one like many others have adopted the greyman philosophy and won't be one of them Im afraid.

For me its quite simple. Using a number of subcultures (raw vegan diet-ists, old world living-ists, survivalists, environmentalists and the like) to give me inspiration as to ways to make my life better, healthier and cheaper and to protect against times when I am not taking enough sales to cover all costs, unemployment or just a bad winter. Basically normal persons preparations plus a few extra fun bits to make me happy, to keep me warm when its cold, to enhance my life during the time when I am preparing as well as to give me the basics of life for when the SHTF situations come about (SHTF means, in my opinion, not enough money, short term unemployment, electrical power cut, short term problems with the water supply E.G., drought, or a seriously cold snaps during the winter and a lack of desire to go out and shop for foodstuffs in the ice.)

I don't think this has that much of a connection to "the way that the world is, man" but maybe shows something about my cautious mindset. If a problem arises, I don't want to be too heavily inconvenienced. I want to be able to maintain health and sanity when there are pressures in life.

Its about what I am and what I want to be when I am older. I want to be able to have enough and to be able to learn enough to have stability in life no matter what comes my way. Learning better ways of doing things basically.
