hammocks why not...

Post by (pete) »

Just working on some of the items for my bob and most people seem to want roll mats is there a reason. I'm looking at a hammock and its great packs away small and is real comfy also up off the floor

So why not....

I have used a hammock for about 2 and a half years now, and I use it every time I go camping, regardless of season or weather. With a good tarp/basha set up, it's a great way to sleep, providing you have a good sleeping bag and an extra insulating layer beneath you. The extra layer is a must so that you don't lose heat via convection due to your body crushing the insulation of the sleeping bag beneath you.

The one I have is a Trekmates Expedition. It's advertised here at £25, but I paid £18 for mine at the time.

It's not the best hammock in the world, but it's not the worst either and I've had no problems with it at all. At some point I may buy a DD hammock, but the one I have works fine for now.

Used a hammock in the navy. If you buy one, try sleeping in it all night. You might change your mind. Shtf , I'll be finding a sprung divan!

I have slept allnight in a hammock loved it though nor for days at a time... It's only going in the bug out bag anyway and that's to see me good for 1 week, so should be ok besides its easy of use, light weight and minimum space in the pack far exceed any, if any minor discomfort for me

I loved my hammock when I had it.

The main reason for going back to ground dwelling is the possibilty of not having two points to hang from.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Loads of the fellas loved 'em. Not me though. If you like 'em, use 'em. However it happens, a good nights sleep is important.

He hasnt done a vid for a while so waffles alot, but a treeless hammock it is!

I picked up a "tropical hammock" by Nomad medical ltd, at a bootsale, have never tried it yet, but it is double layer so you can put a bed roll inbetween to give you that extra layer, it was £1, so couldnt say no really. :P
