here is my pico wind generator made from an old pc fan
sorry about the piccys will take more when i get reaquainted to MY shed
i made this just to see if it would work ( lasted 2-3 mins but then fell apart !)
shown without hub and blades
pics include a simple nail in the end of a piece of wood mast, and showing an L.E.D to prove that it worked..
i then added rectification and found that i can charge a poundland 1.2v rechargeable cell !! i know its not a lot but hopefully this project will get bigger !!!

Re: pico wind generator
I can't, sorry sounds like a great project though and I'm looking forward to seeing more about it
Re: pico wind generator
looks good do you know how much power you get from it hang on I should ask how long does it take to charge a car battery, as soon as you start on amps I'm lost

Re: pico wind generator
junmist - you won't charge a car battery with it
I originally wanted to just charge aa/aaa batteries with it . a bit like a wind version of a solar freeloader !!

Re: pico wind generator
The amount of power obtained isn't useless.
You know those little spinny-round things on the top of vans, I think they are there to trickle charge the battery for all the stop-starts they do. Correct me if I'm wrong. And I can't imagine those little things kick out that much.
Probably charge a mobile phone too, with the right circuit.
it's a shame about the design of fan because, if you could have the shaft spinning though several you would get a bit more out.

Re: pico wind generator
How interesting! Thanks for taking the time to post these
I'm wondering about that card one, the first one - if you did it with sheets of plastic, the sort of thing you get stationery folders made from, I wonder if that would be sufficient to do the same trickle thing? It looks like an easier design, I *think*.
Will google pico wind generators
