Hello from the Isle of Man

Post by agreenmess »

Hello,

I'm Nessy, from the mostly always raining/misty Isle of Man. Hoping to have a good look around get to know people and learn more about prepping ect.

I'm looking at prepping mainly due to the dynamics of the Isle of Man, every day we are losing more and more of our farming industry and getting the items shipped in and relying on the current “finance sector” we have over here. I know that once the finance sector gets a better deal and leaves that’s it for the Island, we don’t have enough of a farming community, let alone the general community to survive, there are allot of people who think I’m a wee bit mad because I feel so strongly in trying to keep what we have already and hate it when I see a farm getting sold off for a big mansion in the countryside, especially as they are all linked to the finance sector so once they get a better deal were going to have huge houses over here that no one wants. Don’t even get me started on the fact that the only means of transport out of the Island isn’t owned by the Government.

On the other foot I am generally trying the prep for the long haul encase one of us (me and the partner) get made redundant especially as we are wanting to buy a house at the end of next year, or just general climate change as in the last few years I have noticed a difference over here and I know it won’t be long till this is effecting the crops and the price of food, which is already high, gets almost to high to manage, oh and the peek oil situation, which over here interests me and petrol just went up another two p to 142p!!!

I am really new to all this and very green so hoping to learn as much as I can with likeminded people instead of trying to explain it to people and them seriously thinking I’ve gone crazy, which I tend to get even when I say I’m storing goods for just overwinter! I already have an allotment, currently in its first year, and I have learned how to waterbath can items and will be looking in buying a pressure canner once I get enough money together, I can knit/sew ect and am really good in the basic DIY, and am learning how to be as self sufficient as possible. I’m also quite interested in off the grid living.

At the moment I don’t have allot of space, so my only storage will really be the wardrobe and under the bed.
