One of the ways i score most of my preps is through work. I work for a rather large restaurant chain and most days i walk away with one or more things to add to my preps. so was wondering what the best OBP's people have scored or if anyones been caught doing so.

So, basically you steal from your employer!Rusty337 wrote:I work for a rather large restaurant chain and most days i walk away with one or more things to add to my preps.
Not something I can honestly say I condone. Particularly if you get caught and lose your job/income, you'd be screwed. Worse if they involved the law.
I work for myself, so stealing from myself doesn't really work...

If the stuff you "walk away with" is stuff that would be thrown away anyway then that's fine but I'm with AWR on the stealing aspect, it's plain wrong.
I've worked in the building industry for most of my life and was well known for not being able to pass a skip let alone jump in it. Rarely did a day go by when I didn't come home with something, wood , metals or whatever much of it could be used as is or sold on as scrap or via e-bay/car boots , so I funded my lifestyle or preps at least in part like that.
Nowadays I'm self employed and find myself doing a mix of work some of which is gardening so have looked at using what I produce there too. Grass cuttings and trimmings are not waste to me they're raw materials for compost making to grow more food. There are other perks too, yesterday I worked for someone who had some "rubbish" to get rid of. the rubbish I removed contained two tv's , a microwave , a brand new camp bed, along with wood and wire too, and to top it off she not only paid me but gave me a bottle of wine as well.

Re: Occupation based prepping
I'm self employed too, but I'm becoming known as a "skipdiver" and even there I always ask permission. Most often recently its been big sheets of cardboard to act as garden mulch, and old broken roof tiles to act as a border in the same sort of way. Last year I got some little (very little - three inches square or so) squares of granite samples for kitchen tops, and they sit on a gentle slope of soil, to act as a little bit of a retainer against the soil slumping on the path. I often pass a municipal skip as well, on the way to the train, and I got a metal shoe rack from there (I'm trying to re-imagine it as a shelf support for the solar dehydrator I'm making, but I'm having difficulties with that ), and a plastic crate that I washed and disinfected, useful for storing preps.
I've found the odd bucket in the same way - can never have too many buckets and some oven shelves, useful for all sorts of things that can be constructed. Once I'm experimenting properly with the rocket stove, it'll be long thin strips of wood to get used to using it.

Re: Re: Occupation based prepping
was wondering who was gonna be the first to pull the moral high ground card, I take the stuff that gets ordered in by accident and stuff left over. I do admit it that I may have walked out with a couple of toilet rolls and a few FAK refill kits but apart from that it's nothing anyone will miss.Attack Warning Red wrote:So, basically you steal from your employer!Rusty337 wrote:I work for a rather large restaurant chain and most days i walk away with one or more things to add to my preps.

Thanks for your concern about my job though bud, it's heart warming

I'll take the high ground too in regards to morals.
Theft is theft. It doesn't belong to you, someone else paid for it.
You wouldn't like it if someone walked into your house and helped themselves to your stuff.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Let's not get too excited lads, this was a general discussion post not a court proceeding. If you do not like the discussion there's plenty other topics to read on the forum.
