Whilst I was searching for information about my dust mite issue and allergy, I wanted to research what the sensations that I was experiencing were.
I came across this website which is a must read for anyone who keeps livestock of any type, and also for those who get these strange crawling biting symptoms.
Plenty of interesting tips if you do get the problem. So here's the link
http://www.birdmites.org/
so I have more or less decided that I have sufficiently controlled the dust mite problem, and am now working on the solution for the next issue which seems like it might be bird mites. Possibly something the cat dragged in.
It's amazing that you can spend so much of your time, energy and money preparing for things that you think might happen and then up crops something that you haven't prepared for much.

Re: Bird Mites. invisible insects crawling on your skin?
Having just got back from a long weekend camping in the woods I have met their cousins the chigger.
They seem to of fed nicely; and I am trying not to scratch the itch ATM

Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Hiya nick, sorry not allowed to pm you back!
Where have the other posts gone from this thread?
Anyway, what you have told me is extremely interesting, only last year had a customer with exactly the same scenario as you other than his place was a converted mine engine house. It had been used for housing various stock, both bovine and avian and had a flock of ferals before he converted this place.
We tried literally ever treatment there is, fogging, coarse wet spray, pyrotechnic bombs "fumes", both wet and dry DE in industrial quantities. It was crazy, the poor guy was having a terrible time, BUT, not one of his friends or relatives who staid there ever had any problems or sensations. He refused to believe that it was something only related to him, no insects of any kind were ever found. In the end we had to recommend that he try another company as he was ringing all hours with things he'd read or heard on the internet. If you are not seeing the little beggars then I think what your doing tomorrow is possibley the way forward.
Oh one more thing, you have not had new carpet put in? People get your symptoms from what we call static bites! Caused by you guessed it, static! Very common, easily treated.

static bites? you (or rather I) learn something new every day!
Re: Bird Mites. invisible insects crawling on your skin?
mites/scabies are almost impossible to get rid of but bird mites are even worse!
Re: Bird Mites. invisible insects crawling on your skin?
Although I had the symptoms as mentioned in the bird mite articles, I have tried an experiment and have used a lenium type shampoo all over my body and after a few days the entire sensation went. Now I have suffered in the past from yeast or fungal infections of the skin and lenium type pharmacy shampoos were always recommended to get rid of it. It was pretty bad (coincidence?!!!) this time and using the lenium type shampoo seems to have (touch wood) got rid of the symptoms.
So if you think you have an invisible mite problem it might just be a skin infection.
