Hi all,
Just after hearing what others have done. I am new to prepping but slowly beginning. When it comes to storing of paracetamol, asperin, and other tablets, how do you all store them, is it best to totally remove from all packaging and store in a Mylar bag or similar or shall I jut remove from box and packaging and keep them in the foil pack. Not sure what is best for space saving but prolonged life of the tablet.
Painkiller storage
Re: Painkiller storage
I take any pills out of the packaging and store loose in a plastic container with the contents clearly marked.

Re: Painkiller storage
Thanks for the reply. How long do you think they will last beyond their expiry date. Most say 2016/2017 but I was thinking they would be good as long as they are kept well and dry?
Re: Painkiller storage
I store in the original packaging - its already foil protected, which is better than a screw top or a plastic container, to my mind.

The US military ran tests on drugs long past their use by date and found the vast majority were still good ten of fifteen years later. There are some exceptions such as insulin and liquid antibiotics.

Do some research, there is plenty of information about. I found a Ventolin inhaler five years out of date and it worked fine (you can now buy this over the counter at some chemists including Asda instore pharmacies). After ten or even fifteen years many common drugs and painkillers were still very effective most only loosing around 10% of their potency. Keep them in a cook dark place will help.

Re: Painkiller storage
TBH I'm not stocking much in the way of pills and stuff, I keep a plastic tub of painkillers just in case but don't use them much, I've got about 6-8 weeks of blood pressure tablets-could eek them out if push came to shove- and a couple of ventalin inhalers lying around(haven't had an asthma attack for about 8 years now), once their all used up that's it, nothing I couldn't live without, once TSHTF a different diet and a different more physical lifestyle will make all the difference.
