Body armour a waste of time or not?
Body armour a waste of time or not?
Evening quick question for you all, body armour is it a waste of time or not I've always had a set or two as part of my bug out bag and plan on taking it but I also agree it's heavy etc. I currently have an osprey mk4 set with full collar brassards and groin protection with level four plates and a lightweight set for my girlfriend to use also with level four plates and a spare set along with some British army mk7 helmets. Overkill or not??
Re: Body armour a waste of time or not?
I have a set of covert body armour issued by work, to be honest it can be a curse as well as a blessing. I find the mobility restrictive, especially in vehicles, also find it hot and sweaty and I tend to fatigue quicker wearing it.

So, when you are evacuated from your home due to a local gas leak will you be taking your 'bug out bag' with you? I'm assuming you will but I want to know why you might need your body armour just to check in at the local travel inn!!?
What about when you need to leave quick due to a house fire in the middle of the night. Will your body armour be needed then?
Oh but then again as the bug out bag is just for total collapse of society I'm sure it will be well used...

Re: Body armour a waste of time or not?
Ok point taken but if I'm going to a travel lodge because there is a gas leak I'm not taking a big out bag just some clothes etc. I'm talking only as a collapse of society scenario......preppingsu wrote:So, when you are evacuated from your home due to a local gas leak will you be taking your 'bug out bag' with you? But surely a bug out bag is for just that scenario. I was watching the news about a family who was evacuated in the middle of the night due to a sink hole appearing alongside their house. They took nothing with them, they didn't have time to collect anything. Had they had a bug out bag in an easy to get position they would have had clean clothes, snacks, water, important information, money etc.Sirmattyb wrote:Ok point taken but if I'm going to a travel lodge because there is a gas leak I'm not taking a big out bag just some clothes etc. I'm talking only as a collapse of society scenario......preppingsu wrote:So, when you are evacuated from your home due to a local gas leak will you be taking your 'bug out bag' with you? A gas leak, flooding, house fire etc are more likely scenarios than the total collapse of society. Why not prepare for that rather than just grabbing some clothes?
Re: Body armour a waste of time or not?
What Su said plus, if I've let a threat in a bad situation get close enough to need the protection body armour offers- I'm already screwed
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.
Re: Body armour a waste of time or not?
I have a full plate knight armour as my bugout equipment. Also shield and huge axe. Do you guys think it's a good idea? I already tried to ride my neighbour's daughters pony (without their knowledge) and poor animal didn't like it, but still will use it as my bugout vehicle in case of shtf situation - with full armour of course

No but if you're bugging in and your house suits it, it could be great for hiding in plain sightJ23 wrote:I have a full plate knight armour as my bugout equipment. Do you guys think it's a good idea?

OTT in my opinion, I do have a stab vest tucked away in the loft, not as part of my prepping but left over from previous employment, not in any rush to hunt it out or make use of it, more likely then not my now protruding belly wouldn't fit in it any way I do however have armoured gloves.
but in honesty if society had got that bad we need body armour to walk down the street, I wont be venturing out with my kids or disabled wife anyways.

maybe not in your bug out bag , maybe next to your bug out bag , so you can lift it if you deem the situation bad enough . I wouldn't mind a set of body Armour , but it's waaay down my list of priorities
