Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 5.
Just finished the most recent home brew mash. Managed to get 1 gallon of shine from the still at 65% avb. If I run it again I should be able to start bio fuel.....maybe I will just dilute and make Gin
Re: Batteries
I know I will get some flack for this, but I recharge my non-rechargeables, I have a normal charger it isn't anything special, I just pop in the depleted batteries and switch it on, check back on them every now and then to make sure they aren't hot. I can normally recharge them 3-4 times.
Re: Watches
Everyday is my Fitbit, I have a couple of G-Shocks but really want a good quality wind-up watch. I think in the event of the end of the world anything digital will run down with time (pun).

On the Canned food point, I have eaten cans that were 5 years past their best before, as long as the tin is in good condition and not dented or worse swollen you should be okay for 25+ years. Even tried cheese that we put up 4 years ago, just took a lump of normal store cheese and dipped it in chees...

Re: Fire-lighters
Dryer lint is often over looked and in some cases might be the cause of the odd tumble fire. We have an open fire at home and 9 out of ten times I use dryer lint and grated wax, it is easy to catch a spark and burns long enough to get the tinder going.

Re: BOB within a BOB?
I have a BoB in the car, it contains as much as I think of I might need in an emergency, pry bar, bolt cutters, lock picks etc. I have an additional empty bag in the car that will be filled with what I think i will need dependent on the situation.

Re: What do you look for when choosing an area/house?
We spent a long time looking for our perfect house, we found it in the end. We live on the shores of a Loch in Scotland and the house is over 145 years old, as a result it has very thick walls, although the kitchen isn't the worlds largest the walk in pantry is cavernous and cold, at this time of ye...

Re: Bugging in dangers?
I like this thread, Mrs Djorn and I choose our house as a bug in location, the fact that we are rural also helps. We have spent many years prepping and have come up with a few good ideas with bug out locations, still have a few ideas just in case our location is compromised. We have a huge stock pil...

'tis the season to be boating. Got the wee boat ready for any emergency, got the fuel mixed and stored away. The camping gear is packed up in the boat and outboard is serviced. The Yacht is just about to go back in the water, been doing the antifoul on the hull and replacing some of the ropes. Plent...
