I started thinking about what will become surplus, in a situation where we have to baten down, it's quite amazing how much 'comfort' there is in a house! For example, each of the kids has their own bed - although maintainin...

Family restrictions
Hello Peppers, Since an early age I've been interested in survival and anything outdoors, I have 10 years military service, and a bounty of add on skills. Whilst i fully acknowledge that i have more to learn (as everyone) i would consider myself as a having a 'fair' level of experience and preparedn...

Re: Kit review , MOD Survival Knife.
I've had one of these for years, issued in 97 when I still served. The knife is tried and tested as a multi use - it's heavy and solid to allow for the heavier work and has a sharper edge toward the handle. It's probably not the best out there- I have managed to snap one side of the wooden handle, w...

Re: A good place to store survival rations or bug out kit
I agree prepbug, as you say, common sense needs to be used. It's about the only place I have available that is secure, and out of the kids reach, so I use it a lot. My main concern is that it becomes my main area, and I naturally gravitate toward it in a bug in. I'm sure there's plenty of discussion...

Re: A good place to store survival rations or bug out kit
I was thinking of using my loft space, as there's acres up there! I've now decided on all non essentials and non perishables. As Su said, the heat can be an issue, particularly with your heating on, or during summer. It's a good idea, but just be aware of what you store. Food storage for me is an is...
