On the plus side, it turns out if you put them through the washing machine then once they're dry again you'd never know

Re: calling any scrimpers (cheapskates)
Unless I'm missing something, this should be the other way round - a substance is more dense when it's cold (i.e. expands when it gets warm), so there's more fuel in your litre when it's cold.izzy_mack wrote: you get more fuel in a litre on a warm day, so buy then if possible.

Re: Money suggestions
I really like the comment Jaffab made about waiting 5 days. Sometimes a delay lets things get into perspective too. I totally agree. Yesterday my husband (who is generally pretty good with money - he's responsible for us having finally switched our utility provider off a standard tariff) texted me ...

Re: Donating blood
Thanks for the post, it may just prod me into action. That's what I was hoping for! :) Yes it is prepping. In a large scale event, we may need blood. I agree, it's a good prep for society as a whole, nice one :) Thanks guys, glad people share my point of view :) Interesting to see how many people a...

Donating blood
Okay, so this isn't something I imagine people would immediately think of as being "prepping", but it struck me that donating blood is quite a prepper thing to do, albeit prepping for society as a whole rather than the individual or family. So, with that in mind, I hope nobody minds me rai...

Upon inspiration from this thread and elsewhere on the forum, I have made my first ever batch of jam! I collected a bunch of blackberries out in the fields behind our house on Monday, and so thought I would give it a go. It has come out looking like jam and not burnt, so I'm happy - remains to be se...

Re: Training your pets to be assets
I have two cats, but the only thing I've ever been able to train them in is keeping off the kitchen worktop. And I suspect they ignore that when we're not in anyway. That said, if we do ever have a mouse problem, they'll be brilliant for hunting down the mice, mauling them, and then leaving body par...

Poundland in Birmingham are currently doing generic loratadine at £1 for 3 packs of 7 tablets i.e. 21 tablets altogether for £1. Superdrug next door, meanwhile, are charging £2.49 for 1 pack of 7...

Re: Get home bag
Having an idea of how you'd get home if public transport was out is crucial, I think, for anybody that works away from home full time - though only if you've already worked out how to cope with staying for a day or two at the office if needs be, agreed. If you've got a flat route like a canal, or y...

Re: Get home bag
Really helpful suggestions, I think I definately need to put more thought into it though. I commute into central Birmingham so it's very built up - luckily I do have a few friends who live in the city I could stay with overnight if all transport failed. Looks like we need a central Birmingham "...
