Bug Out Locations

Post by Devonian »

Ok, so TS has HTF (across the whole of the country - it is not localised!), you've bugged in for as long as you can and now the situation is too dangerous to remain at home and you need to bug out!

So the question is what type of BOL do you "already" have in your current plans:

1. Another property owned by yourself/family/friend which you have arranged can be used
2. Another property which you have no connection (or rights) to use and you do not even know if it will be vacant
3. Heading to the woods or open countryside where you have a pre-arranged shelter already in place
4. Heading to the woods or open countryside where you will need to build a shelter (but you have already know the location that you will be heading too)
5. You plan on camping with a caravan or tents
6. You plan on heading to a government refugee camp
7. You will just hit the road and take each day as it comes
8. You have an arrangement in place with a group of other preppers to meet up with them to form a group
9. You plan on finding and then joining a group of others (strangers) to work together
10. I currently have nothing planned or in place, or wouldn't know where to go
11. Something else............

Which of the above best fit your bug out plans, specifics are not needed......

For me it would be No's 1, 2 and 4 in that order :|

1.

9. Hopefully 8 over (pre STHF) time.

Eventually either 2 or 4 depending on the degree of social collapse. There would need to be society, be that in the form of a new fuedal/tribal nationality (after doomsday) where each 'tribe' will form its own boundaries etc to protect foodstores and families. I know of some good locations, it just needs the right 'tribe'.
Entirely certain that nothing is certain

10 at the moment. :| So we'll likely revert to 7 and hope for 9.

1 mainly, a bit of 2 and possibly 3.

I have a house, my girlfriend has a house, I also have business premises and a storage area.

Contemplating getting a bunker/hunting store.

There are loads of abandoned buildings that are easy to make secure, one of the reasons I live where I live.

And there is the possibility of getting together with like minded people.

Have preppers ever considered Yachts?

There is a world of them moored around the UK and membership of a club gives you easy access.

They offer the ability to be self reliant as they normally have enough gas on board for a week +, they have clean water and sanitation. With very little knowledge you could bug out to Europe or further afield. They are powered by the wind so don't rely on fuel.

Although slow moving they are almost invisible to Radar or AIS if identification systems are turned off!

Quite a few incorrect statements in there, sorry to be a pooper ;)

Skippering a yacht is not something you pick up "very quickly", its not hard but it does take time to learn the distinct skills needed.

They are far from low-vis when it comes to radar, generally speaking.

You are though quite right, boats are perfect for evading and survival. :)

for me the top three options would be

2. Another property which you have no connection (or rights) to use and you do not even know if it will be vacant
(however i am pretty sure it will be vacant)

4. Heading to the woods or open countryside where you will need to build a shelter (but you have already know the location that you will be heading too)
(Perks of living more rural that urban i guess) perhaps incorporating number five on the list 5. You plan on camping with a caravan or tents

7. You will just hit the road and take each day as it comes

I think ideally i would love to change this list in the near future to incorporate option 8. 'You have an arrangement in place with a group of other preppers to meet up with them to form a group'

I think no matter what option 6. You plan on heading to a government refugee camp, would be the last thing i would want, could not even think of allowing myself to be in that situation
