Vehicle prep

so my main reason for prepping is global financil collapse, but when you think about it there are many possible scenarios resulting with needing to get out of populated areas quickly and effciently.

so i am planning at the minute as i have low funds (VERY LOW)

the situation is i have 3 dogs 2 kids and my wife who suffers with chronic fatigue syndrome (M.E) as the name implys get worn out V quickly
so i am not expecting her to up and hike 15+ miles out of the city

what sort of vehicles have you considered or have you got for BUGGING OUT
also what modifications are you doing/done to make it as practical as possible
I have been looking at the Land Rover Defender LWB an old one as to avoid lots of elecrical issues

what are your thoughts?

A defender will be uncomfortable for your wife,and any cheap ones will be a money pit.

And they are thirsty on fuel.plus they may not have so many electricals but they always need something adjusting.

I have seen plenty of retro cars going for just over a grand,no cat converters,ecus etc.

In your situation, I'd be considering a camper van. You can use it for holidays and stuff, but it would be invaluable if you needed to escape.

Buying a vehicle solely for the purpose of evacuating your home seems extreme?

depends where you live and what kind of country your driving through, in a bug out scenario you need ANY vehicle that will carry your family and all the gear you want to take. vans are a bit obvious especially the larger ones, campers are ok but unless you use them for holidays until it all goes TU may be an expensive hobby. a decent Volvo estate or a people carrier may be a better choice.

i have alot to consider
i am thinking if TSHTF a couple of vehicles would be handy
BUT
what if nothings happens or it takes many years to happen could be used for fun family holidays

Have you even considered the possibility of staying at home? Where are you going to go?

How likely is worldwide financial collapse and what would be the impact to you and your family? Like you said, I think you have a lot of thinking to do.

the Likely hood of complete financial collapse is very likely
the banks around the world are printing money to try and get on top of the MASSIVE DEBT around the world
this is called "funny money" and basically the more they print the lower the value of it and therefore inflation goes up to counter it

a few months ago america nearly had to close their government due to having no money
if this actually happens it would De-stabilise the entire worlds economy
and history show this has happened to other civilisations
so from my point of view is the most realistic end of life as we know it situation

(my suggestion is for you to look into this yourself i have found enough to think this is a real possiblity in the next 5-10 years)

so how it effects me is
the value of all money everywhere is constantly decreasing in value (fact)

so imagine you wake up tomorrow and inflation or interest rates have skyrocketed
and you go to buy a loaf of bread at £300 but you wage is still the same
do you continue to work?
will everyone else?

so now people are hungry and resort to raiding the shops
(your local Tesco or Asda has a 2 day suply of stock for normal shopping patterns) again fact
so they will all be empty within a day
and once all this has been consumed what come next?
Usually people will do anything to get food (i know i would physically assault some to feed my baby daughter) (sorry its the truth)
now i live in a very densly populated low demigraphic part of our city
my only realistic option to protect my family is to get out of the city
