I wen for these over a filter straw because I wanted to be able to carry the water with me and drink easily. Of course you can bottle dirty water and use the straw but that seems inefficient to me! :)

Sorry to throw a spanner in the works but I have bought two of these:

The plastic water bottle is really high quality malleable plastic and the filter is chunky, which personally I find comforting because I know there is plenty of carbon between me and the microbials!

'The 38oz Pull Top Canteen filters up to 100 gallons of water or more, depending on the quality of the source'

the sawyer is quoted at 100,000 gallons

Just restating my interest in the Sawyer Mini Filter folks.

If a group buy goes ahead I'd very much like to take one.

Plus more worryingly there is no reference to the level of filtration offered.

I went ahead and ordered myself a couple of the Survivapur Water Filtration Straws and they arrived today.

Very pleased with them, they look robust enough to be part of my every day carry. The pre-filter in the bottom can be removed and rinsed and there is a little pouch with it.

Certainly better than carrying loads of water or water purification tablets.

Yes for an EDC you can't beat those straws, very compact and like you say far better than carrying around litres and litres of water.
