I was looking at the lifesaver bottles due to the .015 micron filtration, but was put off by the shelf life of the product. I am know looking at getting one of these which filters down to 0.2 microns:

But then also using Oasis tablets for belt and braces protection.

Anyone untrained at giving an I/V post SHTF, would at best, be madness.
But saying that I, can't see any problem giving water via rectal hydration out of one of them products.

No (especially because it is not isotonic saltwater). Even if it produced sterile salt water, the container you'd put it in wouldn't be sterile, if it came in to contact with air it wouldn't be sterile and the connections to the IV-kit wouldn't be sterile.

The water for proctoclysis (rectal rehydration) doesn't need to be sterile. If you would drink it, you can use it (carbonated might be a bad idea ;) ). Proctoclysis is only usable in a very limited spectrum of hypovolaemia problems. When caused by bleeding, it is too slow. It is generally accepted that a grown-up can absorb about 1L per hour in that way. That won't stop you bleeding out, keep your blood pressure up in an anaphylaxic or septic shock. You can't use it to rehydrate someone suffering from severe diarrhea (obviously). You can, however, use it to treat dehydration victims who cannot take anything orally (either due to vomiting or unconsciousness). Theoretically you can use it to sustain slow bleedings that can't be stopped, and where oral rehydration is not possible, like bleeding ulcers.

Generally though, i'd advise against shoving tubes up other peoples behinds. There's a small risk of perforation, and besides the examples mentioned above orally would be preferable. Not to mention they might object.. strongly

Does anyone have any suggestions why mine isn't working properly. I bought it new and primed it before i tested it.
It has a good flow rate but when I've tested it with some mucky water ( from my plant water tray) it still had a slight brown tinge to the water with black/brown bits in, although i put the bits down to the new carbon filter. I also tried it with clean water from the tap and when this came out of the bottle it was a little cloudy.
I must have passed about 100 L through it and it's still no better.

It's an exMod one from ebay so I don't think they'll touch it. In all the specs I can find it says that when the ceramic filter is dead it wont pump and the more you use the filter the slower the flow, but the flow's still good I just wondered if anyone might have known how to solve it.
oh well worth a try before it goes in the bin. Cheers anyways leo1

Still worth contacting Lifesaver and asking what parts you need to replace.

A 4000UF filter costs about £90 but the whole bottle will set you back £125.11, so its cheaper to sort the one you have then buy a new one.

It might be something simple (and therefore cheap) to fix
