Prepping as a frequent traveller.

Post by rationaljay »

Hello Everyone, I'm new here but would love to hear your thoughts on prepping as a frequent traveller. I live between London and Buckinghamshire but also spend at least 6 months of the year living abroad as well as travelling multiple times per month for work etc. As someone who wants to be prepped, prepping is actually quite a challenge as one never knows where one will be.

Do many of you travel frequently? If so what do you do to be prepared for the worst and what situations do you prepare for?

When at home (this is an on going process) I am obviously in a much better position. But when I'm away I tend to always have a go bag packed and ready. What do you guys do?

PS nice to meet you all!

Hi, if you are away from home a lot then thinking light is prob the way to go, there is quite a bit on the forum on EDC every day carry bags and vehicle kit so i would sujest you add to your experience of travel by learning skills such as first aid and mechanics and making sure you have the best map and info avail for the area you are in. Cloathing/ pocket contence and a monney belt survival kit is handy.
prep for the most likely first and biuld up from there.
Saterlite mobile phones with pay as you go sims are not expensive so long as it is only used in an emergency and not for long chats.
Making sure family members know what to do if you are away and have some simple preps done so that there is no panic if they can not contact you etc.

I work offshore so travel by air and sea almost constantly, there is never a time when the next trip is not looming.

The worst thing about trying to be prepared is the fear that I may not be able to get to my loved ones.

errrr Satellite Phones are a minimum of £500-$600 with call costs of around £1 per minute

I wouldn't call that "not expensive"

However if I had the cash, I would buy a couple..

I have been known to type "sujest" when I mean "suggest" due to being a Dyslexic.
I also have an IQ of around 140

$500 to $600 for a Sat phone?.... That is cheap, not so many years ago they were three times that and the size of a big suitcase

Wow, this thread got nasty quickly! :(

I believe, respectfully, that FG is saying that while he may make an occasional spelling error he is far from an idiot.

Latrocinium has received a weeks ban for his unnecessary rudeness, it will not be tolerated.

OP: Do you fly?
Because if you do then I'm sure you've got a better idea of permited and prohibited items then most of us

One thing I will say. Currency, a lot of places around the world recognise US dollers. So carrying a stash of greenbacks might be an idea.
As well as a credit card that you never use, but one that is widely accepted (American Express or Barclay Card for example).

Maybe a Survival Thumb-drive, with (encripted) copies of passport, visas, CC's and anything else you'd need to get home
