Bee keeping course

Post by jasper1 »

Didn't know where to put this, so feel free to move it accordingly....

I mentioned on the top skills thread about finding a course, and I now have some details on a possible beekeeping course starting in the spring in West Yorkshire, near Leeds. It is an 8 week course costing £45.00 organised by members of the NBKA. If anyone wants more details of who to contact to put your name down, I'll happily pm you the details. They are taking names of interested parties.....

Hi guys....

Long time no speak.......long boring story!! Just popped in to post this, but will be back later tonight for a catch up......

I have details of the 'Introduction to Beekeeping' course that is running in West Yorkshire. This is the gist of it...

This course is suitable for anyone with an interest in taking up beekeeping or those with some experience who may wish to broaden their knowledge.

The course will include weekly visits to the apiary (weather permitting) to enable students to gain practical experience with the bees, followed by a talk and group
discussion.

Topics covered will include:

The life-cycle and natural history of the honey bee
Seasonal bee management
The control and prevention of swarming
Beekeeping equipment
Honey production and processing
Bee pests and diseases

Demonstrators and Speakers - learn from experienced and professional beekeepers

The course will run weekly on Wednesdays 6-8pm from 7th May until 2nd July 2014 (omitting 28th May) giving eight sessions in all.

Course fees: £45.00 including refreshments.

I can pm the contact details to anyone interested.....

I'd love to do it, but I live in the wrong place! In a post-apocalyptic world, honey may well be our only source of 'sweet'.

You could consider top bar hives easily made by yourself as another way to get into this.

All the info you will need and support in the link.
