Biolite stove ??????

Post by Glasprep24 »

Hey all looking at this bio lite stove for my bag . Been looking at it for a while now
I think the USB charger would be pretty handy also you can burn any fuel in it
It has a fan attached to increase the temperature of the fire for faster cooking and the USB Dock

It would be good to hear your thoughts and if anyone has one !

All the people I know who bought one have sold it on.... :D
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Glasprep: I've been looking and still haven't found a review by anybody whos planning on backpacking this beast.

Read the thread the Pseudo linked to.

While its a great idea and having a recharge device is wonderful. Its expensive, heavy and requires a long burn to get a decent charge (according to user reviews).

Basecamp or car-camping yes, anything else would be a no..... Assuming I had that kind of cash.

This is the link for the thread in which i wrote a short review.

viewtopic.php?f=15&t=8539&start=10#p93983

My conclusion; for hiking I prefer my Jetboil or Trangia. I think the only place for this one is in the INCH-bag (though i haven't made one yet (and honestly don't plan to), so mine sleeps in my hiking/prepper box).

But it IS kinda cool ;)

Thanks, was hoping there'd be a decent review of this as I've been looking at it on and off for a while. That's sealed its case as far as I'm concerned then.

I have been looking at this for a while too, but I cant justify the price. The Biolite produces between 2W and 4W @ 5V.
I have a Solar charger that pumps out 3W @ 5V from ASDA for £15.

Combine that with the 15 - 20 minutes it takes me to dig a crude but effective Dakota Firepit and I have everything the Biolite has to offer for £130 and 692g less after I've packed a phone cable / battery charger and 4 rechargeable batteries into it :D

Edit: Forgot to add the link to my dinky charger ---------> http://direct.asda.com/iTravel-3W-Porta ... lt,pd.html
