Splitting your gear storage?

Post by Scotdownunder »

Hey all,

Firstly thank you all for the wealth of information posted - lots to read and very helpful.

I was just wondering on peoples take on splitting the storage places for your prepping gear. E.g. having your essentials with you at your home/car/on you but then having more equipment located at a trustful someones house for example extended food, shelter etc...?

I dont have a lot of room currently so I can only really manage one Bergen full of stuff for 2 people probably, maybe a second smaller 40l backpack too.

I was just thinking that in the event of SHTF my wife and I would probably group up with other family (as it has been said time and time again in posts, having friends / other trusty companions is best). Thus would storing stuff in their locations be of use?

Hope all that makes sense?

All the best

I see no reason why you should restrict your kit to one location. If you think about it, the whole idea of a BOL is for you to get to in such an event. So why wouldn't you have a cache of supplies there?

I certainly plan on filling up a box at my Mum's house, my Mother-in-Law's house, my Sister-in-law's house etc etc that if it comes down to it they have something put aside even if their SHTF doesn't involve me.

I have stuff all over the place.kit everywhere.
The important thing is that I know where it is, AND I know how to use it

Ok well it is a comfort to know that my thoughts are not totally mad in splitting it up.

Thank you for your comments!

Many people cache supplies out in the world in holes in the ground. Your way sounds more secure.
