depends if you want to stay legal or if you want to store enough fuel for post collapse? same can probably be said for gas cylinders and even log stores too, I expect there is a legal limit for them too??

Probably, more so the gas cylinders than wood storage though.
Again, what individuals decide to do is up to them but UK Preppers must stay within the law as it stands.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Ok hypothetically ,
IF it wasn't illegal and was totally safe to store petrol just how much would anyone store (or want to store ) for a post collapse scenerio? I'd assume that people wouldn't need to travel as much. My van is diesel but I only do around 5000 miles a year and most of my petrol is used in mowers and strimmers which I couldn't see having much demand and a lot of the diesel is burned on the way to cut people's grass . 5000 miles is around 120 -130 gallons per year or 600-650 over the five years. If my mileage was 10% post event then I suppose I could get away with about 65 gallons of diesel and probably another 10 gallons for chainsaws and such.
Makes being able to store 20 litres seem somewhat inadequate.
Grenfell: I'm not sure, but I think that diesel (and heating oil for that matter) have different rules to petrol.
Loads of places round here have their own (above ground) diesel tanks (normally set quite high so they can use gravity feed rather then pumps)

Yes I know that but didn't make it clear. It was a hypothetical case and for that I'd assume my van ran on petrol rather than diesel , so assuming consumption was the same I'd be looking at the same figures.
With regard to storing diesel I seem to recall when I was driving a telehandler it was in the regulations that above a certain quanity (250 or 500 litres I think) bunkering is required which is more of an envoiromental consideration than a safety one. That may only apply to building sites or temporary use age but I'm not sure.
if legality wasn't an issue( I'm only allowed 5 litres on my tenancy) I'd be looking at storing 100 litres in 20 litre containers, I reckon that will last me about 5 months or less post Collapse just for "scouting and scavenging" trips!!
If that were the case (perhaps I am ignorant of the facts ) then I will be doing a 'Lifer' as I have that much stored.
