GHB - Webbing Advice

Hi Folks, just thinking about a GHB to live in the car - I work locally, mostly within 20 miles of home so want to build a GHB - I have a few bits n bobs assembled and am splitting it between a 25l rucksack and some sort of other load carrier device, maybe military webbing.

Focus is on mobility so I'm staying light (no camping gear) and want to be able to ditch the rucksack if I need to but still keep the core items on me.

Plan is to wear webbing under a big raincoat with the rucksack over it - so I can ditch it easily if needed which should give any approaching hoardes something to play with while I run !!

My question is and maybe the ex forces folks will know - can you swap the ammo pouches on webbing for utility/water bottle pouces as they seem a little bigger - I think i know how this stuff all fits together but not sure if the ammo pouches have to be on the yoke to make the rig work.

Any thoughts? - thanks all and stay dry and safe in this weather...

Seems a bit overkill! Webbing is big and bulky, not ideal for wearing covertly as intended.

Im assuming youre referring to something like the old '58 pattern webbing. Heavy bulky and uncomfortable, but fully modular and everything can be moved around including the ammo pouches.

What is it youd be wanting to carry in it? If you want something small and light and concealable have you considered a "tactical manbag"

Ive got one of these, theyre deceivingly big inside, like a tardis But light and can be hidden under a coat

I have the bigger version of that bag, I've wired charging cables through to some of the pockets and have a recharge kit in the CCW compartment, velcro'd for stability.

As for webbing, there are a couple of webbing standards out there, but I think most of the newer kit will use MOLLE (pronounced Molly). Everybody loves a Wiki Link, so here you go!

You can find add-on pouches for pretty much anything you need... Water, ammo pouch, camera pouch, ID panel, pen holder, grenade pouch... etc, etc, etc. The best part about it is that the way MOLLE works is that you are not actually restricted to MOLLE standard bags - they can be converted to handle pretty much whatever you need them to.

hi, thanks for the response, a manbag could work, certainly a lot less bulky, i'll look into that.

I'm only really looking to carry water, FAK, chemlights, paracord, lightweight tarp, small torch, some raingear, map & compass, small amount of rations and energy bars.

I'm planning the route home from where I normally work and for most of it I think I can cut through fields and roads but there are a couple of small towns and residential roads I'll need to go straight over or box round so whatever I carry I want to be lightweight. It's about 12/15 miles as the crow flies so I'd hope to get back in a day ish allowing for rest and diversions. Maybe a small sleeping bag or poncho liner in the rucksack and a couple of extra layers etc.

Certainly dont want to look like I'm worth robbing on the way home that's for sure..

In that case then, the Maxpedition Jumbo is right up your alley... It has a bottle holder, CCW compartment - very useful for holding flat things "secreted" away and is pretty rugged.

One day I'll get around to posting some info on my "Go-Bag" (Man-Bag as the missus calls it) which is one of my ECD's. It's basically one of the Maxpedition Jumbo's

Just be careful, they come in right and left-hand versions, but depending on which you buy is up to you as the Right and Left hand essentially just refers to extracting a semi-auto from the CCW compartment

get one of those fishing waistcoat type jackets with all the pockets in them, most outdoor markets have them for around £15-£20, put all your bits and bobs in that, if you have to drop your pack you are not left empty handed.

Actually, if you want to look harmless and unprepared, thats not a bad idea you could put some extra water and snacks in it.

Depending on the *situation* military webbing could land you in trouble, even shot.
