exactly, the house builders can get away with building smaller and smaller houses and cram more into a smaller area, there is no longer a MINIMUM space requirement for new housing, mind you its surprising what you can cram into a small space! incidentally 3 DAYS is exactly the same amount of stock the supermarkets keep, usually with their "just in time" delivery system its ok but if a national emergency happened-say a fuel strike- then just watch those same shelves empty right before your eyes, its been said by those wiser than me that we are "9 meals from anarchy"

Plymtom, just remember 90% of people do not prepare and don't even think about it. So being prepared avoids the dangers that panic buying spree which will occur. You need to survive somehow for at least two weeks preferably for a month. In that time it does not matter if the diet goes a bit awry but if one can prepare for a balanced diet more the better. For the basics I always keep good stocks of rice, pasta and potatoes and sauces to go with them. Although I have an extra large tank in the loft I need to calculate how long that will last if we only wash infrequently.
about 3 years ago we were snowed (and ice'd) in for between 3 and 4 weeks, couldn't get the car out of the drive, main roads were gritted but the side roads weren't (we're on a side road) we had enough food then to survive without having to worry about where to get food from (we have increased the food stocks slowly and gradually since then),this was just a minor inconvenience, just imagine if it was something far worse, so therefore I humbly suggest 3-4 weeks is the MINIMUM anyone should consider storing.

I'm happy to say that I have never been to an Ikea store in my life!! and with what they show on the TV ads I have no desire to visit one anytime soon either

yeah same here, but the wife went there with her sister and all she came back with were some rather natty looking toilet brushes!

IKEA is my vision of Hell. However, they do have some good space saving ideas. My Daughter has a small flat, but she can cram some grub in there! They have a spare bedroom -heck of a storage area!

no, sad isn't it? I reckon most of them would end up like those folk in America who, within a few days were raiding the skips(dumpsters over there) of rotting food, mind you their (mostly) so stupid they'll probably end up in Curry's in a power down looting big screen TV's!
