I'm starting to put a BOB together for my husband as a present.
I'm sure this has been asked a million times before but what would you say were the absolute essentials when starting to put one together.
I'm planning on building it up over the next few months but just need a few ideas to get me started lol
Cheers

The problem with a BOB is that they are all personal to the person who owns one.
For example, mine would have:
something to carry it in
something to sleep under
something to sleep in
something to sleep on
something to cook over
something to cook in
something to carry water
method of lighting fire
food and water
medical kit
illumination
wash kit
clothing
knife and axe
navigational equipment.
Someone else would have a change of clothes, a book and stay the night in a Hotel
HTH
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Re: BOB essentials
Do you mean a proper Bug-Out Bag (as in "leaving right now, pick this up on the way out"). In which case you'd need to taylor it to what the likely Bug-Out would be, ranging from running to the woods to going to a hotel.
Or you could mean a GHB (Get Home Bag), a kit to get him from elsewhere to back home. What would be in that is dependent on how far, how long and how difficult the journey
So, what do you see him using this kit for as that makes it easier to advise you what would be useful to have.
Also, what does he EDC (Every Day Carry, the stuff that you have with you all the time) already?

Hi, thanks for the replies.
Yes this would be a 'proper' BOB, with the intention of heading into the woods.
Hadn't really thought about a GHB, but that's probably a good place to start.
He works about 45 minutes drive away across the moors, lots of twisty country roads etc.
In terms of what is already carried it's not actually that much; multi tool, bog std fak, torch, few painkillers and walking boots.
We really are underprepared!
