Got my eye on the latest Honda EU range - they can be connected in parallel giving more flexible power output.

My number 1 concern for power outage is the solid fuel boiler pump.

There isn't a switch to turn the fuel off and it ain't supposed to boil in there!

That sounds interesting cpslashm, got a link for these gens? Considered that some time ago, trouble is getting the phases in sync. (50 and not 50 to 100).

http://powerequipment.honda.com/generat ... capability

Probably cheaper to get a battery, charger, inverter and a couple of relays to sort out my boiler back up....

provided I don't burn the house down....

you really need to do a power audit on you usage.things such as electric cookers, dish washers.electric showers arnt viable in a prolonged shtf situation....power generation choices are

wind
solar
petrol
derv
lpg

all have there place and a combination of all of these is the answer in my opinion..never rely on one power source...we live off grid and use all of the above......

if you have the room id go for a lister cs startermatic they are rock solid reliable, low tech and very fuel efficient..they will run on derv, central heating oil, veg oil and waste engine oil.......

we rely on solar through the summer....winter we have solar, wind turbine and a lister LD connected to a 70 amp car alternator to charge our batteries........we use a lister cs to run the washing machine and to run power tools .....
for stuff like hair clippers and low power items we use a honda ex 650 petrol suit case generator..arguably the best small genny ever made..
