The Anti-prepper prepper

Post by iceprep »

Just a thought as I was driving home from work this evening.

Do you think that there are individuals out there- hopefully not in groups or with their own forum- who's prepping outlook is to prepare to steal the supplies of other preppers in a SHTF scenario.

Such a "anti-prepper prepper" could for example, in their preps purchase equipment such as Infra-red cameras / thermal imaging cameras / remote eavesdropping audio listening devices etc

In which case how could we prepare ourselves for such attack?

I'm not worried in the slightest about this as it's highly unlikely a scenario that anyone of use in the UK could experience.

Just wanted to float the idea.

I'm sure I saw one of the USA Doomsday Prepper programmes where their form of prepping was to rob everybody else blind and take other peoples preps!

Regardless of whether people are prepping in this way, it will be a huge issue when TSHTF.

Surely professional criminals are already doing this.......

Of course there will be the criminal element and opportunists who will try to rob you in a SHTF scenario. I suppose it's whether they are organised and prepared with the right tools; I suppose that also means weapons. Having some of the kit mentioned earlier would put then at an immediate advantage and any prepper they encounter at a disadvantage.

How do you fortify and secure your home against this!

Simple answer , yes.
There is an element of the selfish with any sort of prepping if we admit it. We prep to look after ourselves and immediate family not the whole nation so probably not too great a leap to think that some may view other preppers as a "resource" and therefore fair game. Hopefully though enough of us have better morals than that should such a situation ever occur and would find food or whatever without having to resort to impoverishing others.

I'm really not sure whether they are serious or just having a laugh.

It's not a sustainable model...

In the worst SHTF situation humans will resort to being humans, robbing, stealing, destroying and in the worst cases resorting to rape and murder. If any prepper thinks otherwise its time to wake up.
As for the question posed, if they are prepared to go to lengths to gain this amount of hi-tech equipment says to me in the most part they themselves would be a prepper as we know it.
Please bare with me in my ramblings, I'm an ageing hippy struggling to control the voices in my head.

History has a long tradition of raiding. Why should post-SHTF be any different?

Ram-raiders used to hit a clothes shop and grab armfuls of jackets. The staff hit on the idea of putting the hangers on the rail alternate ways around. Next time the raiders took too long and were caught bang to rights.

Raiders want to be in and out before the shotgun totin' community is roused, so they'll want obvious food stores and herds.

I plan to grow a food forest which can be harvested in small amounts from a wide area most days - minimal actual food stores. Raiders are unlikely to want to hang around looking for and picking their lunch - even if they had the knowledge.

Daft, but it's a plan... :|

2nd post and im sure this wont make me very popular....here goes

im happy with the fact i can servive in comfort for 6 weeks plus..water,food,power,heat...............then surely its time to hunt/harvest what you need to keep a leval of life that you need and expect.........where does taking derv, food etc stop and the taking off the weak start??
im sure that scavaging would keep us going for a long time BUT some sort of conflict WILL happen at some point,,,i can see that single family units couldnt servive long term if it was to get serious.......
