Finally swapped over EDC into a smaller, compartmentalised (!) rucksack.
Changed over/refreshed food items, added Red Bull shot.
In addition to existing items, I added plasters, spork, lighter/matches, can opener, emergency mylar blankets x 2, paracord, kefiyeh.
It's still really light somehow, but I think I now have all the essentials if things go arse-shaped while I'm commuting or in London.

Today 24 tins of beans (we don't even like beans but they fill an empty bit on the plate
) loads of lentils, loads of porridge, loads of tea, 5 jars of jam, a massive block of cheese, and 12 chelsea buns ! (which I don't somehow think will live long enough to be stashed )..
Seeds ordered from RealSeeds for veg plot.

Re: What Preps are you doing this week
Finally secured two, two man saws off e-bay yesterday, been waiting all week on them and ended up forking up £26 for both, local pick-up as well
I figured that they would be an ultimate tool if things go real bad, not only for fire wood but as a possible barter item. I only know of once place that still makes them in the uk and they retail out at £100+ (size dependant) - sort of thing you might not think of before its to late.

Went back to Sainsbugs tonight for 12 tins peaches, 12 tins beans & saus, 12 tins peas, and there are now only 10 chelsea buns
I buy Basics tins, they are cheap and great stuff.

Yeah, in a SHTF situation, it's either basics or go hungry. I know what I'd choose!diamond lil wrote:I buy Basics tins, they are cheap and great stuff.
Re: What Preps are you doing this week
Tesco do tins of pineapple which is about 40p a tin - I've got a few of those. Tesco own brand beans (not the value ones) are also great. Taste just as good as Heinz..well, almost.diamond lil wrote:Went back to Sainsbugs tonight for 12 tins peaches, 12 tins beans & saus, 12 tins peas, and there are now only 10 chelsea bunsI buy Basics tins, they are cheap and great stuff.

Short list - please feel free to add -
Two Man Saws - still cheap on e-bay £5 to £50n used, £100 up new (army surplus £50 new)
critical piece of kit - 1/2 the effort, sharpen with a file, cuts from 2' to 3' diameter
quiet as well, barter value - hard to measure - if its real bad, life and death - if its
economic,then its the cheapest fuel!
scythe - There is only one supplier with the whole kit in the country (to my knowledge) Do you need
one? well I decided that I'd rather have than not - used £10 upwards, new - £45 up but
there are different blades and they need peening, so to be prepped you need more - all up
£100 - need to practice peening though so a few £5+ blades would help.
Bill Hooks/.Slashers - a very usefulcutting tool with more weight than a machete, combined with a
the a long handle gives greater reach than a knife or machete, surprisingly
expensive for high brand (elwell) used items but plenty of them from £5
grinding stone - I went for a treadle operated with a 12" stone came in at £45 and a long trip, but
these can be upto £100ish - not many of these left and I do not think they are
made new now.
