Im just wondering in the event (god forbid) of ww3 does anyone know any of the projected targets and fall out zones, and for this is there any point prepping without a nuclear bunker ? ? ?

Nuke targets?

Re: Nuke targets?
unlikely!, a nuclear war is a non starter due to something called MAD- mutually assured distruction.
Adapt or Die, there is no middle ground.

Re: Nuke targets?
I think we are OK for this really.
No please don't shoot the messenger. In the grand scheme of things the UK is not that much of a threat. If it comes down to a nuclear exchange, the saturation that the UK might get would be minimal as opposed to what the U.S. would get.
To be honest I believe that if things started to head that way. There is a very large chance that the UK and EU countries may sit out the game and let the big kids duke it out.
Now to interject a small not of realism to the whole nuclear war subject.
Things have changed drastically since Hiroshima. The devices used to end WWII were really dirty. Lots of fallout.
The current and newer generations of devices are a great deal cleaner. They perform differently than most people expect. The bang is still big and still does a bunch of damage from the pressure waves and heat. They are designed to produce a higher initial dose of radiation in the instance of the explosion. This refinement was and is intended to make areas that have been hit safer to be occupied by follow-on forces.
This is a pretty darned complicated subject.
I guess what I am saying is this.
Somewhere between the stance where "everything living on earth dies" and "if you lie in a ditch, you will be ok" is the truth.
I do recommend that people spend some time reading up a bit on this subject. Worse case all hell breaks loose. Best case we could have a Chernobyl happen in the UK. So you need to understand how this all works. These things are survivable and a little bit of knowledge can go a long way.
Cheers

Re: Nuke targets?
Most naval installations , such as faslane , coulport , and where the trident are based in England Portsmouth ??, most major towns , London , Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh. Most RAF installations , most army barracks , large infrastructure items , channel tunnel , Severn bridge , datford bridge , power plants both gas and nuclear . And I guess places like aldermaston and the chemical place ..... name alludes me .
As for blast radius , I guess that's all down to power of device set off .
Worrying as it is , not a lot is going to be left , bunker or no bunker .

Re: Nuke targets?
Personally I would think the targets are things of high value I.E. leadership, military fortifications and maybe even nuclear power sites such as sellafield.

Re: Nuke targets?
The UK is small and would be easily finished with even a comparatively small nuclear exchange; five or six high yield bombs would pretty much knock us back to nothing and if your looking at an attack by the likes of Russia firing fifty or sixty missiles would not be hard, five or six would be very easy.
Personally I doubt we will see and exchange between the East and West as it really would be MAD (Mutual Assured Destruction). I hope I'm never proved wrong.

Re: Nuke targets?
It all depends on who does what. It is alleged that several Suitcase nukes have been lost by the former soviet union.
The USA had special atomic demolition munitions http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_At ... n_Munition.
So it is probable that similar weapons were developed by the USSR, although no definite evidence has been aduced. In all probability they would by now have become degraded if not useless by now. http://cns.miis.edu/stories/020923.htm
The so called 'Dirty Bomb' again theorised as a simple explosive and some industrial radiological waste. London would be a prime target along with Birmingham and Manchester http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/2708635.stm
As for targets Faslane ,Coulport, Aldermaston and Burghfield, Devonport, Milford Haven Gas Terminal and Portsmouth I would imagine would be a priority plus some where in the Midlands. That should be enough to totally disrupt the country. The cold war reserve stores have been sold off and I doubt if they have been replaced. Most of the Home Office Depots used to store the Equipment and Food has been sold off and used for Storage and Light industrial use.

I just hope that it never happens

Take a look at this for a potential attack, gives you an idea if your near a major city. Or can put in your home town and chances of survival

Re: Nuke targets?
I'm not sure that is accurate, I'm pretty sure a 50MT bomb would effect far more area then that.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.
Re: Nuke targets?
I really dont think that there is enough room in my flat for a blast screen and I certainly dont have enough room in the bathroom to build a bunker.
If it is something that is that far out of my control it is something that is that far out of my control.
Sure, nuclear war is a possibility, but a conventional war is more likely, but to be honest, I feel that both sides will want to avoid that and will just have local wars like they enjoy having.
Moving smaller chess pieces rather than getting the Queen off her squaire with the Bishops, Knights and Rooks.
WW3 by proxy may have been going on for a long time is a lot safer for all the major players.
