Hey ya,
I have just discovered to my great disappointment that I have lost my multitool so guys I would welcome any comments on which is best out there I was quite tempted with the Gerber suspension for 19.50 off Amazon but am also looking at some of the SOG and leatherman range.
Anyone have any experience with them?
Cheers,
Matt

Re: multitools
I have a leatherman wingman which is excellent, had a wave before but lost it.
Re: multitools
I've owned a Leatherman Charge tti for a good many years now which my wife calls my 'American Express' because I don't leave home without it. It's been a fantastic multi tool and I've kept it in great condition. Recently though the large screw driver tool broke off completely which I was quite annoyed about (more with myself for being far too rough with it). However as Leatherman offer a 25 year guarantee with their tools I sent it off for repair under warranty and rather than replace the broken attachment they simply replaced the tool with the updated version of it!
Well worth the money!

I have a couple of Leathermans, the Wave and Wingman. They are very good. However, I still prefer the Swiss Army Knife ( pick your model).they are lighter in the pocket, and for * me* more versatile. I find the tweezers, toothpick and scissors the most commonly used functions! I have the Hunter model for edc, and the saw on it is brilliant.

Re: multitools
I just bought one of the Gerber suspensions at £19.45 from amazon, but to be honest when I compare it to the Leatherman multi-tools that I also own, the suspension really is pants and I'm pretty disappointed with it.
Decided to keep it as a Christmas or Birthday pressie for someone else, spend a bit more and get a Leatherman!!

Re: multitools
Hey Devonian was the Gerber suspension that bad then?
Re: multitools
In a word, yes!
It's big and bulky (compared to my other multi-tools) and the locking mechanism is fiddly and a pain to use.
It does however have lots of tools for the price, but I've tried them as it just doesn't feel right.

A guy just asked the same question over on the British Blades Forum... Here's the reply....
There's a reason why they're going for £20…
I bought one of these a few years ago when visiting friends in South Carolina; flying down with only hand luggage, so called in at a chandler and decided to try a Gerber Suspension.
Not a bad idea. The flattened cross-head screwdriver is a bit of a novelty, but works well enough on screws that have not been tightened very much. The pliers and the saw (although short) are quite good.
But the steel used for the plain and serrated knife blades is like monkey metal. Give it a hard stare, Paddington style, and you've already blunted the edge.
Go with a Leatherman and you wont go wrong , just pick the one you like the look of...
The 25 year guarantee is great , they have replaced mine twice for Gratis
Just remember the locking blade ones are not EDC ( unless by reason of job , hobby etc.), they do make a few non locking but cant remember which.....
Found it http://www.britishblades.com/forums/sho ... leatherman
If you want good value go here... http://www.heinnie.com/Clearance/Multi- ... -102-7364/ I just sold one seemed solid but I did not like the layout

Re: multitools
To be honest and this has been covered before , nothing beats the proper tool for the job , but multi-tools are handy , but at the cost of the leading brands , you could buy a couple if theses , then its not so sore on the pocket when you loose it
