Hey ya,
I have a bit of a knife fetish I must confess and I usually stick with one brand which is tried and trusted for me and that's cold steel. However I have just purchased two new knives the colt blood stripe folding tanto http://www.heinnie.com/Colt-Knives/Fold ... 976-10872/ and the Gerber warrant http://www.outdoor365.co.uk/knives-c35/ ... knife-p883 I used to be a big fan of Gerber knives but I thought the quality had gone somewhat especially with the Gerber gator machete etc. has anyone here used the colt range of knives?
Cheers,
Matt
New knives
Re: New knives
nice looking knives especially the Colt, I never pay more than £10 for a knife especially a folder, I don't believe in brands and labels but buy what suits me, most of my knives are unbranded but I have had them for years and they have served me well.
Adapt or Die, there is no middle ground.
Re: New knives
What knives are you using lone wolf I have found particularly in this area that you get what you pay for my favourite knives that I use most are both fixed blade knives by coldsteel one premium the OSS http://www.coldsteel-uk.com/store/OSS-VG1.html it's a great hunting fighting knife really strong and sharp and also the http://www.coldsteel-uk.com/store/Peace-Maker.html peacemaker 2 it's a lot cheaper than the OSS and also is more practical the knife blade kind of reminds me of the mora knives if anyone knows them. I am also looking for a bigger mid size chopper which can be used to split wood etc
Re: New knives
I generally buy my knives at shows or markets, like The Game Fair or The Wilderness Gathering, that way I get a good knife at a reasonable price, normally they'll do a "show" price if you get there early enough. my current EDC knife is a folder I bought at The Game Fair for about £6, my favourite sheath knife is one I was given for nothing, I've got a WW2 bayonet I bought about 30 years ago in a second hand shop in Plymouth for about £3 , I recently bought a sword at a car boot in Somerset for £4 !!!
I bought a load of folding knives at a market in Somerset(based on a Buck style knife) all had been confiscated when they had that security scare and you weren't allowed to take "sharps" on an Airplane, I bought them for £1 and £2 a time!!
Adapt or Die, there is no middle ground.

Re: New knives
I like Mora and Hultafors for my fixed blades, they're inexpensive rather then cheap.
For folders I've not found anything better (for me anyway) then a Opinel..... Although, I have promised myself a Svord Peasant Knife

Have a good few but wanting to add a quality bushcraft knife yet to decide what one
Re: New knives
I don't know if its just me, but I really cannot see why anyone (in the real world) would want knives like those, they are not exactly practical, particularly the Gerber.
I'm sure they are fine Seal Team 6 raiding Bin Laden's compound, but preppers in the UK??
Am I missing something, or is this all about bling?

Just got a Svord Peasant mini (legal edc) , brilliant for £11, Alox Farmer and just bit the bullet and ordered a Spyderco UKPK
Also on the way a couple of knives from China, about a fiverish each (delivered), but according to the lads on the British Blades Forum they are made in the same factory as some high end European knives and are very good http://www.britishblades.com/forums/sho ... t=sanrenmu
Re: New knives
In a situation where everything has gone to shit it's about having a blade or piece of equipment that is not going to let you down no matter what you put it through, these cheap blades are all good and well but you will find a mid priced blade beats it in every way I.e. Edge retention etc

OK, so TSHasHTF and you are bugged out or bugged in ...............Sirmattyb wrote:In a situation where everything has gone to shit it's about having a blade or piece of equipment that is not going to let you down no matter what you put it through, these cheap blades are all good and well but you will find a mid priced blade beats it in every way I.e. Now what do you envisage you will be using your 'blade' for on a day to day basis?? Assuming that you have managed to get to your knives as you clearly won't be carrying them with you on a daily basis
For me, it would be about food prep; fire starting; and possibly shelter building, for which a bushcraft style knife would by far be the best option, in my opinion.
The tactical blades with chisel points and serrated blades really do limit their practicality and day to day use.
Like I said earlier, maybe I'm missing something??
