Evening ladies and gents,
Wondered what plans you have all made regarding various locations to bug out to etc? I have a semi made plan depending on situation and wondered what you all make of it, I currently live in Reading Berkshire which is a pretty built up area and I'm not sure I would like to bug In here if the shtf so I have three potential bug out locations one is about ten miles from me very rural and hard to get to a total pain in the arse to be honest. The other is about thirty miles away and once again very rural and this location has an advantage of having some long term prep already setup. My final ultimate location is in North Devon and has a massive advantage of being ready prepped as it is my family's farm. But has a big disadvantage in that it is 300 odd miles from me. What plans have you guys all made?
Cheers,
Matt

Re: Locations for bugging out to....
I moved to my bug out location and commuted. Just heard my job is going in a few months so I think things are the right way around.
SHTF around 2017.

BOLs come up quite often, I've read quite a bit about choosing them.
The first rule that most people seen to agree on is this.

You must at least have the right to be on your BOL, even better is to have control of it and the best option is to own it outright.

Family come from the area going back centuries, Grandad used to work for Shapland and Petter, great granddad was a fisherman , plenty of people with my surname in the area and we're all related, even got one who is the Fire Chief!!!

My work now has me on the M4/M5 two or three times a week near to Reading and I often spend time thinking how I would get home to Devon should things turn pear-shaped quickly. I haven't got the answer, I just know it would be a mammoth challenge in a SHTF scenario. It's mind-numbing thinking about it.Sirmattyb wrote:Evening ladies and gents,

I recently experienced Plymouth City centre so that's why I prep.

I absolutely agree - thats the only sort of "bugging" of any description that I'm going to do, other than the usual short term emergency, and getting to my sister in a security situation.Briggs wrote:My work now has me on the M4/M5 two or three times a week near to Reading and I often spend time thinking how I would get home to Devon should things turn pear-shaped quickly. As to *how* you'd do it - I plot motorways (if any, on my routes), major roads, lanes and tracks, and footpaths. Its bleeding complicated

I think your right to have several different routes back home, not just relying on the motorway. Many people would be using the same route as the wouldn't know about back roads etc.
If you had to hoof it then think about railway tracks and canal paths.
I think it's also about knowing what's going on so you can make the decision to go home sooner than most and hopefully miss the madding crowds.
