Increasing food shop prices

Did my weekly food shop yesterday, ok so it was the first one from this payday so is always bigger as I tend to buy the odd treat etc but damn am I noticing the prices are increasing! I will often shop at Lidls but will do one or two Sainsbury's/Tesco's or the like shops each month too. In Sainsbury's I noticed even the basic range flour has risen in cost - 64p for a bag of plain or self raising. It wasn't that long ago that it was under 50p I am sure. I tend to buy the big 5kg bags of sugar as they last and its cheaper to buy bulk. Last time that was £4.29 but I am sure that will be going up next time I need to buy it! With the threads on this forum that have talked about crop failures due to water or drought and the unrest in the Ukraine atm, I am sure prices will rise sharply this year, so I am going to try to buy the essentials; (flour, coffee, tea, sugar, rice,) in bulk and stock up when I have the money to safeguard me from some of this expense. Prepping for price increases or even shortages.

don't buy all your stuff in the same shop or even the same brand, try to get it from different sources, that way if there is a problem with one batch you don't lose your entire stock, I don't buy much in bulk but buy it little and often maybe 2 or 3 of the same thing at any one time.

It seems to me you need to be quite expert at knowing the prices of the stuff you buy alot of.

So, I feel I know 'the real price' of:

Coffee (decent instant, like Carte Noir, Kenco, etc) - is usually £6.50 for a 200g jar, The Real price is £4. Usually one of the decent brands has a special offer and I bulk buy it at £4 for 200g.

Cheese - this is going up in costs and the old 500g slabs are all 350g now, which make the maths difficult. But I aim for £6 a kg. Sometimes it is not just cheddar in this price range, emmental and jarlsburg sometimes get cheap.

Lots of others...but you get the drift

asda has douwe egberts coffee on special , £3.00 a bottle usually £6.59 (i got 12) the big and small bottles are the same price !!!

I do most of my shopping in tescos and lidls,because they're the only ones in the nearest town to me. Lidls do specials at weekends, got 4tins of branston baked beans last weekend for 96p - bought 6 packs - 24 cans for £5.76. Usually I just buy a little extra at a time too. Agree with lonewolf , shopping around is best if you can.

Also agree with preppingpingu, the prices seem to go up every time I go. Dried fruit is fast becoming a luxury!

I don't drink REAL coffee(we have a friend with a real caffeine problem),I drink instant coffee(wife drinks tea), we usually buy Lidl coffee at £2.19 for 200g, but I did see last time we were in Tescos they do a basic 100g instant coffee for 50p! might try a jar of that next time and see how it tastes!!

We're a family of tea drinkers, except for one son, The 50p coffee in tescos can't be too bad, Lone Wolf. I tried it on him but he said no, so I emptied the jar into his usual jar and he's now been drinking the cheap stuff for 3 or 4 weeks and hasn't said anything, aren't mothers horrid!

Some people are just Brand-W*nkers, if it doesn't have the right label on it they seem to think its crap.....No matter that it might well be made the same way, from the same stuff and sometimes even in the same factory.

You are right in that it does read as harsh, I must try to remember that there is no tone of voice on internet boards.
