Tent advice for bug out.

I need to buy a tent anyway and me and my BF have said we need to buy a 4 man tent so it's a bit more spacious....mainly for general camping and for festivals.
I would also want to use this tent incase we need to bug out.

Anyway, does anyone have any reccommendations as for the best tent to use in a bug out situation? Is there much difference between tents? I don't know whether it's going to be hot or cold, is it worth investing in a mountain tent? Or will a basic 4 man 'cheap' tent do?

Any info will be much appreciated thanks.

Unless you're Hot-tenting (a specialised winter technique), or planning on sleeping up a mountain any 'normal' tent should be adequate for most places in Britain.

Car camping is very different from backpacking, and so are the tents.
As a couple we use five different tents because we have different criteria for their uses

Order some spare poles and elastic.. what ever tent you go for .....

I have had so many different tents, but recently i have been looking at Coleman instant tents, there are a couple of different sizes, but the reason i find them interesting is that they are already put together, all you do is unfold them and straighten the poles, they are free standing, so you could put it up in a carpark or deserted building if you had to, they are not going to be the lightest for backpacking, but they would make having a good shelter very easy.

Would you be bugging out on foot? Bike? Car? Whats your budget?

For any UK temperatures you don't need to heat a tent so long as you have good clothing and sleeping bags plus food and water. If I were you I'd look at getting two tents minimum. A big cheap dome tent for festivals and perhaps a two man for bug out purposes. That said, most two man tents are very small so the three man is a better option IMHO.

Tell us your budget and we can offer more specific options.

I don't think I could see us paying more than about £100-£130 for a tent. We may have to BO on a bike so something lightweight.
Considering the weather that we have had over the last few months, with the heavy wind and rain, I really don't know what tent could cope with that extremity of conditions!!

depends what you mean by bugging out? if you mean the journey to your BOL then a basha or tarp shelter would probably be adequate-especially if your on foot, cut down the weight you have to carry as much as you can.

I would always go for a tarp or basha with bivvi bag and sleeping mat, they are simple, much lighter than a tent, more adaptable than a tent and can be repaired easily.

Make certain whatever tent you obtain it has a rain fly. Essentially this is another covering that goes over the tent to give it an extra layer of water resistance. Extremely important during wet weather. You also should employ a ground shield. This is nothing more than a heavy weight piece of plastic that will help protect the outside bottom of the tent. In a pinch, you can use a large barrel bag.
