killed my first lambs

Post by 23pioneer »

Last year i got two caddy lambs(lambs with no mother or not one thats interested) off the local farmer and raised them on some land i have, this week i killed them(shot in the head and throat slit ) hung them(4 days) and butchered them(as best i could) and i have to say the feeling of producing the meat myself was fantastic, im sorry if this offends some people but i was amazed at the pure satisfaction of it all, even the kids are not that bothered by it just looking forward to the end result now.

This may sound a little grizzly but could someone point me toward a link or video on how to slaughter and butcher sheep or pigs, a cow might be a little large?

It's not something I intend to do on a daily basis but I'd like to know.

Well done! :) My family still refer to home made sausages as Shirley sausages, - name of our first pig who met a similar fate to your lambs. Apologies to any Shirleys out there! There is nothing quite like something you were responsible for from start to finish is there!
