Shipping containers have been discussed in the forum on numerous occasions. The consensus appears to be do not bury them as they are not designed to be used as a bunker.

This is something that has been discussed on many occasions and it keeps coming back to planning permission - something that is very hard to get in the UK.

Again do a search, lots of discussion. :|

as for storing preps in them , i`d say its a no go . they get very hot inside in summer and very cold in winter . i used to use one as a on site work shop and don`t recommend it at all .

I'm interested Briggs :) despite having a good idea of how you use yours, woodland owners/leasers being allowed to place one on the land for equipment storage and a few home comforts for the times you stay overnight, this makes a bland metal box into as interesting a talking point as a treehouse's outfitting, so I'd kick off with the obvious, after assuming that you could sleep in it should you wish, cooking and toilet needs ? a wood burning stove and a camping toilet, lighting perhaps, I don't mean electrical power for I assume that part of the point of having the facility is to get away from the rat race, so if you make it too comfortable before you have to the danger is you simply relocate it, we are talking perhaps about a woodsman's equivalent of a beach hut or chalet evolving into bug out location also.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

I spent quite a number of years in a porta cabin whilst working in the building trade, these are very similar to containers although they have windows and doors already fitted, maybe these could be used in a similar way to containers? you would need some form of heating as they are very cold in the winter without, and very hot in the summer.

I think the thing is for both security and permission, woodland owners can put a steel container on their land for both tool storage and shelter to a degree without planning permission (though how many nights a year is restricted I think) portacabins are a step too far for most councils, though the idea much like a caravan trundled in and hidden sounds nice.
It would be good to know what the OP was hinting at as regards a BOL, out in the wilds? on your own land? or in your back garden?
