I think a caravan comes under the heading of Temporary as it is moveable somewhat like a tent and comes under the "28 days rule" as far as planning goes, in that you can stay there(in the caravan, camper or tent) for 28 days (and nights) per year(in total).
Adapt or Die, there is no middle ground.

Sounds something like what I am remembering, I'm not sure if it's from that Man made home thing, his shed on wheels is permanent in as much as whilst it can be moved, he's not going to :lol: begs the same question about a caravan, though leaving a caravan in the middle of nowhere is probably risky, I don't like the restriction, more fair and realistic for most would be every weekend and 4 or 5 whole weeks a year.
The way things are going re house prices and rents it would make sense to relax the rules on living in your own woodland etc, we could see a whole new type of underground or low visual impact eco homes, lived in by Hobbit like preppers - off grid.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

Yes thank you I think I aspire to be a part time Hobbit too now - holed up away from the madness at least some of the time :mrgreen:

@Devonian. I can't PM at the moment but as soon as my restriction is lifted I reply with some info on welfare units and planning regs.

It was an interesting program. However like all of these projects will require lots of people to know about them. It's going to be very difficult if not impossible to keep the intentions of your "shed" a secret and we've all discussed the issues of if SHTF then everyone will be knocking at your door.

I don't see how a shipping container couldn't work.

I'm not up to scratch on the planning regs but as it is a container, it's moveable and therefore temporary.

But even if you were burying, don't bury the whole way and maybe use some sort of camo cover for the rest? And maybe look at some sort of Kingspan covering internally to help regulate temps?

Found a gov link to clear up all the confusion over permission. Exempt under class 6 section 2.

They're already being used as accommodation in parts of London, so they can definitely be adapted to suit;

Albeit you'd probably be better off with something distressed looking, without windows and hidden amongst some others if possible I guess.
Funnily enough I've been playing Watch Dogs lately, and the main character has converted shipping containers dotted around the city as hideouts. Basic shower, bed, desk and some lighting. In fact ripping off the idea from the game would give some great interior design hints...
