I am pretty new to prepping, though I have always been unofficially preparing in some form or another. I understand reluctance to give out details on a forum. So, how do we email or contact each other so we can get to know if we want to actually meet? I am happy to put up an email I use occasionally.
I have done a few posts but no real answers have come forth. Also, there are so many threads I can't remember where I put some of them.
I am hoping to come to the Wilderness Gathering in August. But, again, if we are All too secretive, we will pass like ships in the night.
I live on the Somerset Levels and would be interested to communicate with anyone in the SW area. Preferably not too far away. I am interested in learning more about prepping and I feel the mutual support of a small group is more likely to succeed then solo?

I have edited your post to remove the email address. There are many parts of this forum that can be seen by non members so its probably not wise to have an email in an open forum.
You will be able to Private Message other members once you have made 10 approved posts (not in using those in the new members section). That is one way to communicate with other members.
We have a Groups and RV section.
Meets are arranged by other members, they aren't that well attended. But you might meet end or two members.
As you are going to the Wilderness Gathering (went last year,really enjoyed it!) then post potential meet in the RV thread and see what interest you get. It's a start.

A lot of us like to remain anonymous on the grounds of op-sec , the more people that know i prep , the more people will come looking for me if tshtf . I can prep for my immediate family . i can't prep for all my friends/neighbors/colleagues etc , if i shared out my preps with others it would be to the detriment of my own family.
I have a responsibly to my wife and kids , a responsibility i take very seriously . i know it is a very old fashioned idea that a man has a responsibility to provide for his family and no i don't keep the wife chained to the kitchen sink
i have seen comments on the forum that some people couldn't just bug in knowing the neighbors were starving . in a real shtf i could , my families needs come first and foremost, the more people come with the begging bowl the harder it is to ignore!!! therefore i tell no one and no one knows who i am or where i live

op-sec is crucial , especially in the first few months of a large scale event . those that are left after that are probably self reliant enough and have useful skills that you could work with them on rebuilding a community of sorts .

Ok, fair enough. I will await developments in my area. I saw that there were a few people listed as being Area 1 more specifically Somerset - SW area. So, eventual direct communication and face to face, seems good. I have what I think is emergency kit for Bug In or Bug out, but no experienced people to check this with, also no trusted buddies to form a small group, which I think will be essential( or is that not widely held?). I do hope to get to the W Gathering, so maybe I can make contact there, I will wear a Carnation and carry a DIYMag, so you can spot me

Get some photos taken (trying to ensure some form of opsec) upload them in the BOB section with a list of whats what and im sure we can dissect it for you

There's a few of us on your doorstep, so to speak. As Andy says, check the BOB section, (I have a post of mine there) and maybe post a list or a photo of yours. Maybe even a wish list. I have had a couple of private messages, thanks for that. However, I cannot answer them yet as I have not earned access to this. Obviously, eventually I can 'email' privately this way which is great, so local contact can be made.
One of the private messages asked why I should want contact face to face. Well, I agree that discretion is paramount (I believe some conspiracy theories to be true, look around, EU etc) but, as I said above, solo survival in a major SHTF event is not likely long term. So, the sooner small units/support groups can form in readiness the better. The first step is to talk privately online then maybe meet somewhere neutral, etc. if a few of us locals can gel, then a local RV and plan can be made, that is, if individuals agree that there is strength in numbers ( well a unit of 4 or so).
Even face to face private details need never be exchanged, but plans for mutual support could make all the difference? So, enough for now, I will do my probation and await developments

Yes you're right of course, I've been interacting online now for many years, and in another interest group meet ups were not uncommon and the desire to meet like minded people strong, so I can understand Patchman being fairly straight up about the desire to make friends, however I/we as a family don't get out much, and as such wouldn't budge nor travel far unless I had gotten an idea though prolonged forum and (back in the day) chat room type activity that I would get along with the person(s)Devonian wrote:You could always arrange your own SW meet with an open invitation for people to come along......
OPSEC is one thing, sure but caution was always a consideration when meeting IRL from on a members board let alone a publicly visible one, remember that for whens and wheres.. the entire internet can see every post on this one so keep it PM for the location/time details or you have truly thrown caution and OPSEC into the wind
