Newbie from Northern Ireland / London

Evening all,

So as the title says, I'm from Northern Ireland but working in London.

Always worried if the SHTF I'd be stranded in London and not able to get back to my Family in NI. And of course if the S were to HTF London would of course be a target of some sorts, so getting out quick would be up there on my to do list. Lol. So that's what I'd like to prepare for.

Anyway. I won't babble on,

Welcome to the forum. I'm sure the fastest way out of London in a SHTF situation would be the river, so join a boat club. If you don't already know anything about boats you'll have a fun new hobby as well as prepping.

I never thought of that. But the river would only take you West-East rather than North which is where I'd want to be heading.

Fortunately I live and work next to a major route out of the city, but it's a motorway which is likely to become a car park in the event.

Would a folding bike be a good idea. (Sorry for stating the obvious if you already have one). It could be kept under your desk or in a locked place at your work and it would give you an invaluable head-start over people trying to use the tube or the roads. It could then be folded up as soon as you found a better means of transport further out of London.

Yeah that's a good idea. So transport out of London could be done either Cycling or even taking to foot. Getting to a boat to get me to Ireland though would this even be feasible. In a SHTF situation, ferries do seem to be one of the last modes to transport to run.

I would say it's on the folding bike until you're out of immediate danger then the real challenge will start with finding reliable transport to the west coast ports and then finding a boat or ferry. You have a few options there, you could go via the Welsh ports to Ireland, then head north on foot, or perhaps you've still got your folding bike....

Lol. The folding bike seems to have it's merits.

Yeah the closest port would be Holyhead to Dublin and then the travel up from there.
