You can grow your own tea (and tobacco) by the way:

I know ive seen camp coffee in asda and our local londis/premier, im sure ive seen it in all the large stores?FEISTY wrote:I would say that's a wonderfully successful crop of dandelions there. I looked for Camp coffee a while ago (there was a whole discussion somewhere on this), but couldn't find it. I think it's made from chickory. I liked it in hot milk. The kettle is always on in our house. I just do not know how we would cope when the tea and coffee runs out. I am, in no way, underestimating the effect of not having a caffeine-rich hot drink in our hands post SHTF. Probably akin to having to give up smoking. I once gave up chocolate and tea. I managed fine without chocolate, but found I couldn't manage without the tea. I am now a coffee drinker and have been stocking up on the stuff, but I may have to look into the dandelion thing. What about adding a tiny bit of a caffeine tablet to a cup? Would that work?

My wife said the taste is improved by adding a bit of real coffee so I would assume adding the caffeine tablet would also work.
The recipe Hamradioop posted is give or take the way I made it. I did sieve the remaining big chunks out at the end and the resulting powder pretty much looks like instant coffee too and can be made in a cup.

Re: Dandilion root coffee?
It would make a nice warming caffeine free drink, but you would probably get more bang for your buck learning how to make dandelion leaf and flower tea which requires much less fresh herb.
But you also need to think about what you want to use it for.

I've tried dandelion coffee and it's not bad, but I'm more into my teas, I've used bramble leaf, rasberry leaf, clover and nettle. Many more to try yet though.

Sounds good to me as I an a Decaff girl myself, could you guess that?
can't cope with caffeine it makes my heart pound in a very disturbing way. Did go through mega withdrawal from the demon though, sweats, shakes, restlessness and terrible terrible headaches and general unwell feelings which scared the pants off me.
I would recommend going the Decaff route before it all hit the fan.

Re: Dandilion root coffee?
It would be both doing without caffeine and nicotine (ecig user) that would get me big time. I am tempted to think about growing tobacco and making my own nasal snuff again. And if I did it with green herb, I might even get some interesting flavour combinations too.
