Steady, Lonewolf, steady :)! Just remember we're all coming at this from different angles. You're a hard core prepper (almost total annihilation scenario and the loss of all knowledge :)), someone on here is prepping for a health food famine and I think we're heading for a religious takeover, if not the last world war, but can't afford to invest millions in a nuclear bunker/impenetrable hidey-hole, so I'm starting with prepping for a petrol tanker strike, electricity/water outages and food shortages (all short-term). I don't think we shouldn't get too bogged down in doom and gloom and we should certainly not be (too) derisive of anyone else's preps. Personally, I'm a big film fan and would be gutted if I couldn't have my film fix after the SHTF and I think my kids will go feral if they can't log on to their PCs - it could get nasty :). I may have to add a solar panel or two to my list sooner rather than later ;).

I can see a lot of people going "feral" as you put it when they cant have their technology post SHTF, I'm expecting the suicide rate to go ballistic. I don't think of my self as a prepper, I consider myself a survivalist. I realise a lot of people, even preppers, cant see where I'm coming from, that's okay, I'm used to being the odd one out!

What Preps are you doing this week

Post by Briggs 2.0 »

As per my earlier post, I can report that I have got out of bed but this is now a strict non-prep day. No woodcutting, no water filters, no stockpiling and no batteries. I needed a day away from my prepping chores.

I'm now in the forest, sitting in a folding chair underneath a tarp, reading "Surviving Home" with a cold beer and XXL chammidge.

Have a good Sunday, my prepper chums!

I look at you like world war z's Isreali one in twenty whos' job it is to argue the unlikely scenario and not allow it to be completely poo pooed, like most of us you have a moral compass which you wont through away lightly, you imagine the worse case scenario probably because you have the youth and resources to be able to cope better than most in it, and if you do not live to see TSHTF you simply expired before you were expecting to ;) If there's a fine line between prepared for anything and paranoia then Lonewolf lights that path pretty well IMO.

In the film the Commitment's someone says to Jimmy Rabbit about the drummer guy "but he's a nutter Jimmy" he replied " I know but he's our nutter"
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

You're not the odd one out here - more like at the more extreme end of the spectrum. Most of us, if our family, friends and acquaintances knew we were prepping (to survive), would think we were just a bit odd :D .

Anyway, I added more matches which I'd forgotten to mention (I could have a mountain of matches and it wouldn't be enough). I've dipped into my coffee stash, so I'm planning to do a mega coffee shop, as I realised how miserable I'd be without it. T-bags for hubby and coke and diluting stuff for the kids (they live on orange juice and milk, which won't be so easy to come by). I planning on temporary outages not being too painful - business as usual - so I need to get hold of a kettle I can use on my new stove. Tried a pot once when my kettle died and it just doesn't taste the same for some reason. Apart from getting a few more cases of bottled water (instant and no-one will be grossed out - I think having to filter and sanitise rain butt water would be a bit of a shock), my short-term water preps are complete. Will have to buy a lot more gas canisters, but otherwise short-term heating, cooking and light is complete (can never have too many torches, batteries and candles though). Food is patchy and needs more work, particularly protein. Once that's worked on, I'll be moving on to mid-term preps. The garden's coming on and plants are just "taking off". 6 out of 8 Heirloom Squashes have germinated and are growing well. Rhubarb is growing away. I've had some Asparagus, so they've had a reprieve, but I'm growing Pak Choi and Lettuces in between. I've lost track, but the kitchen window sill is full of seedlings and larger tender plants (Tomato, Chilli Pepper, Golden Berries, Courgette, etc, etc). Very soon I'll have to net my fruit trees and bushes, otherwise in no time everything will be stripped bare. I still have many more to seeds to sow and I haven't ordered new strawberry plants yet. The herbs are looking after themselves. Still growing flowers (some are edible) - after all, this is a garden and should be enjoyed :). I aim to have all seeds sown (where applicable) by next weekend. I'm going to be busy.

Why not think about investing in a sodastream with a few spare cylinders and some soda (coke / diet coke) concentrates, then you just have to have the water and the kids will be happy? Also less storage space?

Ordered myself a manual grinder for soya beans so that I can prepare my nut milks and soya milks / tofu / okara in a power outage.

When my next pay packet comes in I will be ordering a fair order of soya beans.

So, I took some well-earned time off from prepping and I spent a wet but very pleasant afternoon in the forest with my dog, gun, a book and a beer. It was very relaxing not prepping and not worrying about the state the world is in. However, I've just seen a video of the 'act' that won the Eurovision Song Contest. If you ever needed proof that the world is on the brink of madness then this is it, so I'm back to prepping 100%.

One question springs to mind - am I paying for this tripe out of my taxes, via the UK's contributions to the Eurozone? Please tell me I'm not....
