Eurovision You unlucky chap Briggs I rarely get the chance to escape to the country, but I have managed to avoid things I don't like on the TV for many a year now and Eurovision is one of them tripe indeed you need a special remote control like mine which has a F&*& Off button or a bang stick, but although Farrage may try and get some mileage out of it, I'm pretty sure we had to endure that $hite before we even joined the gang
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

It was very relaxing not prepping and not worrying about the state the world is in. However, I've just seen a video of the 'act' that won the Eurovision Song Contest. Finally managed to get enough of my allotment cleared to get some seeds planted - parsnips, radishes and early broccoli. It's taking flippin' ages to get very far at all and all the time the nettles and thistles are getting heftier! Met one of my fellow allotmenteers and he gave me some confidence that I'm doing OK - him and his wife started about this time last year and they got quite a lot growing in a fairly short time.

Not via your taxes, but via the TV licence. The Beeb is part of the European Broadcasting Union. *puts tin hat on* I rather liked the winning song... I only watch the voting bit - it's like a revision session on European history seeing who votes for who. Although last night, Russia was snubbed by all but the obvious countries (i.e. those who are under the thumb).

That cleared that up... but if you think I am going to listen to it to fathom your sanity... nope not going to happen

FerFal from Argentina talks about entertainment quite a bit in his book - he says that when it's too risky or expensive to go out, having a DVD to watch is important. Just a thought on the entertainment side.
We cleared and planted a lot of the garden today - flowers mostly (also a morale prep) but also a lot of dahlias as an alternate food stuff.
Transplanted toms, chillis growing nicely, other squash going well.
The ESC was absolutely dire and I nearly fell off my chair when the "winning act" came on. Bad enough, but then he/she was interviewed and it was worse than beauty queens and world peace. The female interviewer looked really uncomfortable and struggled for something politically correct to say. No wonder Terry Wogan has given it up, but giving the gig to Graham Norton was just the sleazy, smutty cherry on the cake. These acts are supposed to be representative of the best of that country's talent. Does that mean there's a large proportion of bearded she-men in Austria, who are only just competent singers, forgettable for all but appearance? I'd previously wanted to visit that country, but now I'm not so sure. I watched the first few acts, including Austria, quite enjoyed Iceland (the guys in the bright suits), but just had to switch off when it descended further into the banal. I will never, ever watch it again. I agree that it's just one example of how the world is going to pot. When you get millions of people who publicly say, "How wonderful", when inwardly they're saying, "What the hell?", you know you're in trouble. Is it crazy to think that one day straight people will be in the minority? Jailed for being straight? I know it's Biblical and people don't like anything Biblical being quoted these days, but it's all getting a bit too Sodom and Gomorrah for me.

Entertainment is a form of distraction and a common need in times of stress.
entertainment is a distraction for idle hands. have you noticed how many children, and adults too, have to be entertained these days(and end up paying through the nose for same), we used to make our own entertainment. makes me wonder how many of these sorts of people will survive(or not)WTSHTF.
