Re: Axe and Saw
After hearing so many people talk about how useful a small axe was I purchased a fairly cheap one a while back but was completely underwhelmed with it. Then I watched a youtube bushcraft vid where the chap was saying how sharp your axe should be (he was making feathersticks with his axe on the vid) I went and sharpened my one........what a transformation
. It is a superb tool once it is sharp enough, I assumed mine was sharp enough as it was new but it was nowhere near as sharp as it needed to be.

You might be very lucky and find one for sale on ebay, or on bushcraftUK http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forumspog wrote:I like that were do you get one from,the-gnole wrote:My small hatchet cost me £40, was hand made in Sweden though![]()
But apart from that you won't get one as they were a limited hand crafted run by a guy called Cegga, an axe maker who worked of a design a friend of mine created.
A look at his work.

Watch out for the Damascus steel blades he makes

I'mma join in the axe showing fun I guess. My pride and joy, Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe

Crazily sharp, hand made. A bit pricey at £58, but absolutely beautiful. Having used a variety of axes, from B&Q budgets up to...well...this...I have to say, you get what ya pay for!

Re: Axe and Saw
Forget all the fancy hatchets and hand axes and get yourself a smallish bill hook, that and a 2 foot bow saw fitted with a Sandvik blade will do for general firewood duties. If you need to split logs then you're probably heading to cutting logs with a chainsaw which is another league entirely.
DIY tools in simplest terms are a drill (not cordless, unless you like waiting for batteries to charge) a tenon saw, crosscut saw, claw hammer, a set of three chisels. Screwdrivers, flat and cheesehead. That should be enough to injure yourself with!
