I took two horse rugs back to a tack shop today one to swop and one for a refund, the lady who owned the shop apologised to me for being slow saying she had been off work for three months and was a bit slow getting back in to the swing of things she then mention that she had been in hospital so I had to bite and I asked her what she had been in for and she told me she had had H7N9. She looked a bit surprised when I knew what that was. I quizzed her a bit about it, and she had not been in contact with anyone who had had flu and it seemed to have come out of nowhere.
She informed me she had been fine one day next day felt rough and felt she might have had the begin of a chest infection, so had gone to her doctors who told her she was fine this was on a Friday, on Saturday she felt so bad she went to the local A&E, She remembers walking through the door and that is it. She woke up one month later, the hospital doctor told her that she would not be ready to go back to work for three months and it would take a year to feel fit again. She had no idea how close she came to dyeing as she was out of it but she did say that she had never had a flu injection but next flu season she is rounding up the family and taking them down to the doctors for them all to have the injection as she had never felt so bad and that was on the recovery end of the flu and she did not want any of her family to go through what she had gone through.
For those who would like to know this was in Huntingdon, she came down with it at the end of February 2014, Now perhaps I was asleep but I cannot remember any news on an out break of H7N9 virus earlier this year which begs to say that if it is not being reported on the news how does the common person know about outbreaks either of flu or other viruses

Holy crap! if people are catching it and a stay that long in hospital is escaping the press, it does make you wonder, they say people die of the flu every year, that's one thing but is this an isolated incident? Hobo will know if anyone does.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.
Re: 1st contact with a surviver H7N9/bird flu
Good grief. Thats horrendous - and imagine if she'd been the sort of person who *didn't* go to A&E ... and she was out of it for a month? I'm really surprised that didn't make the news, at least locally where *you'd* have picked it up. Worrying. It just goes to show, an emergency, even from a known flu, can come out of nowhere. It does make me wonder where she picked it up ... maybe its more prevalent in the population (either human or bird!) than is generally known...

it would not be in the interest of the media/government to publish that story as it could cause a panic. Despite what they would like you to believe the D Notice committee is still around and active.

Her story just don't 'sit' right with me. If she indeed did have that infection why tell you and not the newspapers who would indeed run the story without a doubt and she would likely get a nice little bung for telling it.

Tack shop. Any imports with short delivery dates? How is 'flu transmitted?
Wikipedia:
Typically, influenza is transmitted through the air by coughs or sneezes, creating aerosols containing the virus. Influenza can also be transmitted by direct contact with bird droppings or nasal secretions, or through contact with contaminated surfaces.
