growing in Denmark

Post by jean405 »

Hi Diamond lil, and everyone else
I've had my allotment for two years now, the first year I didn't grow much at all, just to see what came up on it's own, nothing much did come up except spring onions and lemon balm.

Last year I had potatoes in grow bags, quite good crop, this year I will be growing blue Congo potatoes, that should grow very well in Scandinavia, they taste fabulous.

I also grew, onions, spring onions, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, chard, basil, mint, rosemary, raspberries, tayberries, strawberries, beans, and 2 lemons from a dwarf lemon tree in a container I'd had for 2 years, unfortunately, this winter it died, but there where 6 small lemons on it, that would have been wonderful to harvest. I had tried growing small citrus trees for years, with no success, until this one, now I know I can do it I will try again. This year I plan to grow the same things plus, peppers, squash, pumpkins, chillies, and I plan to plant plum and cherry trees. I have an apple tree with pink fleshed apples, I don't know what it is called, but it makes the best pink apple juice.

I have a lot of lemon balm, I love it. Also lavender, mints, fennel, sage, thyme, but Rosemary keeps dying in winter. I grew Charlotte new potatoes and Pentland Javelin; Mussleburgh leeks and I tried onions but they went black and rotten, I only got a few. I have lots of seed here ready to plant in April/May - syboes, small flat turnips, chard, lettuce, leeks and swedes. Got Arctic tomatoes, planted 2 of the seeds today & will see how they do. Today was the first day its been ok to work outside really.
