What is everyone eating from the garden?

Post by jansman »

In tandem to my thread "what are we growing", what are we eating from the garden right now? OR what are you foraging if you have no garden?
I love this time of year. We are getting courgettes, new spuds( they are gorgeous),lettuce, radish, spring onions(or in our case a Siberian perennial onion), peas, spinach beet, rhubarb and Spring cabbage.
From the foraging angle, those cherries I mentioned yesterday at our fishing venue are looking promising. I will have to get there before the birds-'cos they know when they are just ripe!

Very little at the moment, although we did have some chard this evening, and I've lifted the onions. We're also eating strawberries, a few raspberries, and red currants. Oh and broad beans. Our peas got eaten by mice, our spuds got kissed by frost which seems to make them very attractive to slugs, and the squash are standing still.

One stands out for me and that is our little gem lettuce, I now know why they are called little gems because that's exactly what they are . Chopped in half and chargrilled on the Barbie with olive oil. Bliss ;)

What a lovely idea. Gem is a variety I have grown this year too. Also they do not seem so attractive to slugs.

Our strawberries from the hanging basket are fantastic fresh and ripe. I have been picking them and eating them straight from the plant when doing the watering.

Not surprised, you're still covered in snow, judging by your picture.
