Hi everyone
I stumbled across this site about a week ago after searching for information on BOBs. In the last week I've read a lot on useful information on here which is why I've signed up.
I am a complete newbie when it comes to prepping and I am a bit ashamed to say that I have never even thought of prepping until now. I live in Kent (Area 3) so the sort of emergencies that are most likely to affect me are power/food/water shortages due to adverse weather, so for the most part the plan will involve bugging in. Should anything more serious be on the cards such as a major problem in the capital then it looks like I will be preparing to BO or possibly INCH. Once I am prepared for all of the above I will look at less likely scenarios.
At present it's me, the GF, our two small dogs and a cat. GF is not on board with prepping however she will happily roll her eyes and let me get on with it providing I don't spend too much money too soon or store tinned food in her wardrobe.
A good starting point for me is to begin to slowly build a surplus stock of longer life food that we eat, as well as other items such as toiletries and first aid. The first toy/gadget that I am considering purchasing is a wind up radio.
I don't want to bore anyone too much so thanks for reading and please feel free to offer any advice - especially if you're in the same area as me.

As most regulars on here will concur, the best way to start is turn off the water, electricity and gas to your flat. It doesn't have to be physically off, just imagine it is. You will soon get a list together of what you need.

Hi there, love that your first purchase will be a wind up radio. Much better than loads of expensive batteries that have a shelf life. You can get wind up/solar radios too!
Great to meet you!

Hello and welcome to the Forum.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Thanks to everyone for the welcomes.
I also bought one of these: http://www.dx.com/p/multi-function-11-i ... ver-150407
I like little gadgets especially if they are cheap. I also spent my first £5 on food and water preps. It's a small start but I feel a lot more prepared than I did 10 days ago.
Thanks for the tip, I actually went for the Degen DE13 in the end which is a wind up/solar radio. I believe that a power cut lasting for a few days is the most likely scenario that I will face, so I'd like to be prepared for that initially.Stasher wrote:Hi there, love that your first purchase will be a wind up radio.
