Interesting page, thanks. Fascinated by the bit about fish antibiotics. Does anyone know if these are available in pet shops?

Thats a good one ... thinking of different scenarios, if it was something that the authorities knew they couldn't control, what would they do ... in London in particular, while the official policy is to use transport hubs to get commuters out, there might well be another strand of action going on, which would be aiming at kettling them, maybe *at* those transport hubs, amongst other places.

Thanks LW, useful stuff, nicely summarised!
I find the point on demonstrators interesting. The chaos caused by a few very localised riots in London caused terror for law abiding citizens in the surrounding areas. Rioters in 2011 all had roofs over their heads and weren't going hungry!! Imagine the violence in a situation where food supplies were cut in a major city...
I imagine they'd turn very quickly on each other when push came to shove, possibly causing large scale riots in SitX to dissipate sooner..?

remember, we are 9 meals from anarchy, the supermarkets have a "just in time" delivery system and that's usually about 3 days worth of stock, that will disappear very quickly after any kind of event takes place, milk and bread will go first. when we had the "fuel protests" the supermarket shelves were empty of perishables within 24 hours, then tinned food within 48 hours, petrol station was empty within 1 day.

During last riots in London all shops were shut. This video shows the L.A. riots of 1992 and the Korean community defending their businesses. Many in the L.A. black community did not like the L.A. Korean community as Korean businesses were prospering within black neighborhoods.

My son and I will be in London in a couple of weeks, using a friend's flat. We're going by train and will have no transport of our own. Can only carry so much in our luggage, so we will be completely unprepared. It's a worry, but we're just hoping nothing major happens there while are so far from home. My DH and DD will be thousands of miles away, thousands of miles apart, and will be in major cities at some point during their trips. My daughter will have backpack and decent survival clothes. My husband will have office clothes and normal shoes (not a prepper). I'm just trying to put all of that to the back of my mind. I will probably take a small fire kit, I'll buy in a few days worth of canned food and some water (but we will have to carry everything and leave it there when we go home and we're taking our sleeping bags (so we don't have to use our friend's bedding and wash, dry and iron it in a rush before we go home). I'll pack one of those large Mylar survival bags. I keep telling myself it's probably going to be more dangerous to be in Glasgow during the Commonwealth games
