I was thinking about society breaking down and how our stash would be stolen by maurauders (someone alluded to this before, but I can't remember who - they said that they would with arguing etc give away the obvious stocks in order to protect the hidden stash). Quite right too.

All I can come up with to protect our goods in a SHTF scenario is the excellent kickboard plan, behind the washing machine and underneath the floorboards, but then I'm stumped.

If you have high enough ceilings you could put in a lower one and hide stuff there? I've seen some good hidey rooms hidden behind false bookcases on here too which were just brilliant and I would love to do that.

I also like the kickplate idea and it's where I am keeping my first few food items that I bought for stocks. Personally though I would not consider it a hiding place as such, but more of an 'out of sight' storage place. Although I would never have thought of storing food there myself, it was one of the first pieces of useful information I got from this website. So if there was some sort of raid and people were looking for my stocks I would worry that they would be found quite quickly there.

That said I'm not sure how many people have read the info on this website or how many people in the UK are preppers. I'm not knocking the kick plate idea though I think it's a very good idea.

@decaff do you have any links of threads where people have made hidden rooms behind bookcases etc? I haven't found any on here but I love things like that

ggc, as for rooms hidden behind a bookcase Ann Frank and Her family lived in such a hidden room. They escaped the attention of the occupying German Army for 4? Years I believe.

I tried to bump the post with the bookcase in but not sure it worked?

If not put in bookcase in the search box and you will find it.

Thanks Decaff I managed to find it. That is cool. I don't really have an entire room that I could get away with hiding but putting a small cupboard in between wall studs behind one of these is a very good idea.

i would love one of these in front of a small cupboard. Hiding in plain sight! alas, I cannot have one where I am now as I don't have anything to put it in front of!

I heard that a relative of mine stashed loads of stuff inside her sofa during WW2. You could do that easily with modern couches - they are hollow and just covered in material that's stapled on.

That's a great idea, easy to implement with little warning
