What Preps are you doing this week

Spot on that. You can knock some gear out of there, for sure. Well done.

Thanks, I'm enjoying it, and I've just added 4 chucks and 3 ducks to keep me going.

Looks great, Just curious, why is the plastic green?
Our prepping today has included stacking (hopefully) the last of the winter wood. Woohoo!
Also taking an industrial approach to keeping the birds out of the fruit cage (they've been sliding underneath!)

Yeah but not this breed as we have gone for Muscoveys. I got these to keep the neighbours happy as there supposed to be quiet, ugly as sin but quiet lolStasher wrote:Had ducks before? As I'm now out of work, I thought I would try some of the basics range my thoughts so far
Cheesey crackers - thinner than the branded and shop non basic brand and not as cheesy flavoured but nice enough and will get again.
Tin tomatoes - not much chunk to them , lots of bits of tomato skin and very watery probably won't use again as false economy
Bread - revolting but then I don't like white bread much, jury still out on that one
Cheese - as good as the shops own brand will get again
Baked beans - surprisingly very nice! Less sweet than non basics even the reduced sugar and salt ones, will get again.
Chocolate mousse - again very nice indeed.
Tinned spuds - these tasted soapy for some reason and had strange texture will be OK in a stew though.
Cornflakes and coco pops - very good and will get again, like that they are in a bag without a box, less packaging, always good!
Always have the chocolate and have lots in my stash so know that's fine
Noodles were good but not the curry ones
Butter is good and will be on my list in future.
That's it so far so all in all pleased and glad I tried it before stashing it.

As far as I can tell, theres not a lot between any of the pre-packed cheeses in supermarkets..... Mind you, I find them all far too bland unless they're past the sell-by/BBE date.Stasher wrote:Seriously?Decaff wrote:As I'm now out of work, I thought I would try some of the basics range my thoughts so far

I remember one advert for an 'Extra-Mature' cheese "Matured for 28 days"
28 Months might be matured and I've eaten Gouda that was 28 Years old (very good, but very expensive)

It was fine Stasher! I'm not a massive cheese eater but I honestly couldn't tell the difference. Could kick myself for wasting so much more money than was necessary! I would try it and you can get small blocks and huge blocks!ForgeCorvus wrote:As far as I can tell, theres not a lot between any of the pre-packed cheeses in supermarkets..... Can't eat mature cheese though sets my teeth on edge FC but need mature when using in cooking or you can't taste anything.

One of my French (Parisian) lecturers in uni used to complain about our cheese over here. Apparently it doesn't taste of anything. Personally, I prefer my cheese fairly light, but you do need something with a bit of oomph in cooking. My family just stick with Scottish cheddar - very unadventurous - I will sometimes stray into brie, camembert and perhaps the odd Applewood smoked, but can't bring myself to try blue. We would be fine with basics cheddar. Does anyone stockpile cheese? How long could you keep it for?
